Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. The Department of Neurology is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking a nationally recognized academic leader, with outstanding clinical acumen, excellence in education and research and a strong commitment to clinical operations and patient access optimization within the Division of Vascular and Critical Care Neurology. This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position and will serve as the Division Chief of Vascular Neurology. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical
Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Candidates with appropriate training and experience may be asked to provide endovascular stroke care.
Teaching
The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurology residents (and those from other Departments), and vascular neurology fellows.
Research
The Division of Vascular Neurology is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical and/or translational research projects and clinical trials.
Service
Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Administrative/Leadership Faculty member will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Division of Vascular Neurology including strategic planning, clinical operations and educational programs

Required Qualifications:
- An MD/DO, with residency training at an accredited institution.
- Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or board eligible in Neurology.
- Fellowship training and board certification in Vascular Neurology care is preferred.
- Understanding of, and appreciation for, the three missions of research, education, and clinical care as it applies to Vascular and Critical Care Neurology in the context of academic medicine.
- A strategic orientation that looks to collect, analyze, and act on relevant data to make thoughtful decisions for immediate action and long-term plans in clinical operations and quality initiatives.
- Strong leadership ability and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage colleagues within Vascular Neurology, the Neurology Department, and the health system more broadly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fellowship training and board certification in Vascular Neurology care is preferred.
