Summary Responsible for instructing and implementing the Veterinary Technician program, ensuring student education aligns with curriculum standards and objectives.
Essential Functions
- Maintain DEA license and controlled substance logs, including inventory and expiration tracking.
- Make medical decisions for program patients and review diagnostic tests, documenting findings.
- Communicate abnormalities to rescue organizations and ensure medical record compliance with AVMA and USDA standards.
- Perform medical procedures and serve as the "Attending Veterinarian" for IACUC meetings.
- Participate in Advisory Board meetings and oversee program lesson planning, ensuring alignment with established curriculum.
- Monitor student progress, including lab competencies, attendance, and skill-level checklists.
- Collaborate with Associate Director of Student Services to address attendance concerns and reduce student withdrawals.
- Maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught.
- Assess student performance and provide additional support as needed to meet learning objectives.
- Maintain accurate and timely student records, including grades and transcripts.
- Arrange guest speakers, field trips, and visits to veterinary clinics and hospitals.
- Deliver lectures and practical demonstrations, mentoring students individually as needed.
- May assist in coordinating externships and requisitioning program pharmaceuticals.
- Ensure adherence to safety precautions in the classroom and lab environments.

- Operate and demonstrate standard veterinary equipment, including anesthesia machines, monitors, and surgical tools.
- Use office equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers.
Working Conditions
- Work in classrooms, labs, and office environments with exposure to biohazardous materials (e.g., blood, feces, urine).
- May require outdoor exposure to large animal enclosures.

- None.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a USDE-accredited institution with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State licensure as a veterinarian.
- Three years of experience as a DVM in a clinic, hospital, or shelter.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication, computer applications, and visual presentation tools.
