Under the direction of the SVP Finance, the Vice President Accounting has direct responsibility for implementing best practices within our Accounting Operations team as well as ensuring the quality and timeliness of financial data. This is a leadership role, focused on driving change by strengthening processes and controls which result in strengthened business partnerships as well as improved efficiencies and quality of financial data.

What You'll Do:
- Process Improvement
- Improve reporting quality and efficiency by bringing best practices to Goodwill NYNJ's Accounting Operations.
- Learn the needs of the organization and identify opportunities to leverage systems to develop streamlined, accurate accounting processes.
- Develop detailed project plans and process workflows
- Lead key Accounting Operations transformation initiatives focused on strengthening business partnerships, improving support for operational decision-making and building capability within the team.
- Continuously identify opportunities to develop and improve processes which strengthen Accounting Operations capabilities.
- Operational
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations; accounts payable/receivable, payroll, monthly close, etc.
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of work performed by the Accounting Operations team.
- Oversee an accurate and efficient monthly close by the 7th business day of the new month.
- Direct production of interim financial statements.
- Analytically reviews balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Oversee annual financial audit
- Manage and propose updates to financial policies and procedures.

- Supervise and develop staff while building culture of planning & analysis
- Lead, motivate, and mentor the accounting operations team in a dynamic environment.
- Cultivate an environment that encourages maximum productivity, professional development, open communication, and team work.
- Define roles, responsibilities and JDs which enable the creation of a high performing team.

- Collaborates and assists SVP, Finance with; Strategic Planning and Department goal setting
- Remains abreast of accounting & finance regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
- Oversee and participate with special projects and work assignments, as required.
Qualifications:
- Significant Project Management experience a must, including: developing project workplans, mapping workflows and documenting approach / outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience leading the implementation of new processes/systems which have resulted in increased efficiency and quality of work.
- Strong communicator, able to effectively partner with others to ensure the Accounting Operations team is meeting the needs of the organization.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance with 10+ years' accounting experience, including at least 5 in a Controller position or higher within a $50M+ organization.
- CPA or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of GAAP and relevant federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to financial accounting are required.
