The Hartford is seeking a Vice President and Assistant Treasurer who will strategically manage the enterprise's capital structure, develop innovative financing plans, and lead capital markets transactions to ensure financial stability and growth. The VP, Asst. Treasurer will lead an engaged and highly skilled team and interact with various disciplines across the company to create capital management plans that support the business and provide financial flexibility. The VP, Asst. Treasurer will also actively engage with rating agencies, regulators, investment, and commercial banks to ensure constructive dialogue on The Hartford's strategy and financial and capital management. This role is based in our Hartford, CT, Home Office on a hybrid basis (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in the office) and will report directly to the Treasurer.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategically analyze and implement alternative financing vehicles and capital markets transactions to optimize credit ratings, reduce capital costs, and enhance shareholder value while maintaining a flexible capital structure
  • Secure contingent credit facilities for the company and implements collateral arrangements as needed, while negotiating favorable terms
  • Maintain effective investment and commercial banking relationships
  • Lead the strategic capital planning process including capital attribution
  • Lead a cross functional team to assess capital across various rating agency and regulatory models in baseline and stress scenarios
  • Work closely with the Treasurer to manage rating agency relationships including annual credit review meetings
  • Stay abreast of rating agency criteria and methodology changes and leads assessment of implications on The Hartford's capital structure and capital plans
  • Manage enterprise liquidity position in line with established targets defined in long term model portfolio to maximize net investment income
  • Be an integral member of the Liquidity Risk Management Group with responsibility for maintaining a comprehensive liquidity risk management framework and reporting to various risk committees
  • Develop and test contingency plans for liquidity under varying market conditions


Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years' successful experience in a treasury role; experience in insurance industry required; other relevant experience may also be considered
  • Proven strategic ability to forge and sustain strong business partnerships with key external stakeholders, including rating agencies, regulators, and commercial/investment banks
  • Excellent communication skills including proven experience synthesizing information (including strategy, capital and financial) for a variety of audiences including board, rating agencies, executive leaders; demonstrated storytelling and presentation skills
  • Successful track record of managing and developing a high-performing, effective and efficient team as well as identifying the developmental needs of others and coaching, mentoring, or otherwise helping others to improve their knowledge or skills. Minimum of three years of direct leadership experience required
  • Extensive experience in strategic leadership and influence, both within and outside the enterprise, to drive organizational success
  • Demonstrated financial analysis/modeling and root cause problem solving skills for both complex and simple problems
  • Visionary and strategic thinker with the capability to seamlessly transition between detailed financial analysis and overarching strategic objectives
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required; M.B.A. and/or C.F.A. preferred


Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$210,160 - $315,240
