About the Role
This is a new position, added as part of ClearGen's effort to build out its team and scale its operations. Vice President of Capital Markets at ClearGen plays a crucial role as the architect of the company's financial strategy, steering the development and execution of a sophisticated funding approach vital for achieving ClearGen's investment goals and ambitious growth targets.
They are tasked with developing ClearGen's scaling strategy, aligning capital market activities with the company's growth roadmap. Responsibilities include cultivating investor relationships, conducting financial analyses, implementing risk management strategies, and structuring investment deals to secure funding for ClearGen's renewable energy projects while safeguarding the company's fiscal interests. Working alongside the Vice President of Underwriting, they jointly lead a team of finance professionals to assess investment opportunities, manage risk, and ensure efficient capital deployment across ClearGen's renewable energy portfolio.
This role requires a strategic visionary with a unique combination of financial expertise and leadership finesse to navigate the complexities of capital markets and drive ClearGen's financial success to new heights.

Location/Schedule
The preferred location for this position is Charlotte, NC, with a hybrid schedule-generally in-office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and remote on Wednesday and Friday. Remote arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. Preference will be given to those based in the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic regions, with the expectation of regular travel to the Charlotte office as the team continues to grow.
Travel
Approximately 10%. This role requires occasional travel to partner sites and industry events.

Responsibilities
- Strategically develop and execute a comprehensive funding strategy aligned with the firm's investment goals and growth targets. This may involve raising capital through various sources, including debt financing, equity investments, and structured finance solutions.
- Guide and support a collaborative team of finance professionals, fostering continuous development, shared ownership of results, and a high-performance culture across capital markets and underwriting functions.
- Collaborate actively with the Vice President of Underwriting to synchronize the team's skills in assessing investment opportunities, managing risk, and ensuring efficient capital deployment across the renewable energy portfolio.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts to ensure capital is deployed efficiently and strategically across the renewable energy portfolio, leveraging team expertise in financial modeling, risk management, and deal structuring.
- Contribute to the development of a comprehensive scaling strategy, outlining key milestones, targets, and resource requirements. Align capital markets activities with the firm's growth roadmap.
- Collaborate with the V.P. of Underwriting to assess investment opportunities and structure deals effectively. Ensure that deal terms align with funding requirements and risk tolerance.
- Build and maintain relationships with institutional and individual investors, effectively communicating investment opportunities and firm performance to secure funding.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis and modeling of potential renewable energy investments. Evaluate the financial viability, return on investment, and risk profiles of projects to make informed investment decisions.
- Implement risk management strategies to safeguard the firm's fiscal interests. This may involve assessing and mitigating financial risks associated with renewable energy projects, market volatility, and regulatory changes.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field. Masters preferred.
- 7+ years in capital markets or investment banking with a history of sourcing and structuring funding for renewable energy projects.
- 5+ years of leadership experience, with a proven ability to attract, retain, engage, and develop top talent, as evidenced by measurable outcomes.
- Solid understanding of Asset-Backed Securities and their application in the renewable energy industry.
- Deep understanding of renewable energy financing structures, tax incentives, and regulatory compliance.
- Deep knowledge of financial contracts and the nuances of financial transactions for loans, leases, etc.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively present investment opportunities to stakeholders.
- Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, market trends, and regulatory environments.
- Advanced modeling skills using Microsoft Excel, including experience with modeling, VBA and pivot tables.
- Desire to work on meaningful projects that will have a positive impact on our planet.
