We're looking for our next Vice President, Claims. Could It Be You?

Under the oversight of the Senior Vice President, as our next Vice President, Claims with Munich Re of Canada, you'll play a vital role in providing management, leadership, technical claims instruction, guidance and advice in respect of the evaluation, reserving, and resolution of loss reports submitted to the company by its clients under Property and Casualty treaties and contracts.

Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day operation and management of the MROC Claims department.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor procedures, guidelines and controls to ensure efficient and appropriate claims handling in line with the requirements of the Munich Re Group, best practices, and the SVP, Claims.
  • Lead, mentor, manage and train a team of Claims representatives, including oversight of coverage analyses, insured responses, and covered payments.
  • Ensure claims are assessed promptly and professionally including developing and analyzing loss information to determine reinsurance reserves, considering application of reinsurance contract terms to submitted loss(es).
  • Promote a customer service orientation, including developing and nurturing a personal rapport with claim executives of client companies.
  • Keep up-to-date with and be responsive to changes to applicable legal developments and regulation.
  • Manage and approve the preparation of Large Loss Advice reports and other loss documentation as required.
  • Oversee records management for the company's Claims group.
  • Initiate and promote inter-departmental communications with Underwriting and Client Management to assess, clarify and resolve client requests and needs.
  • Work cooperatively and successfully with the Munich Re Group Claims group in Munich, Germany and Princeton, US.
  • Co-ordinate, lead and/or participate in client field claim reviews.
  • Report to and inform the Senior Vice President regularly, as directed or necessary, on the operation and progress of the Claims team and all claims work and initiatives, including requesting and obtaining all required authority in a timely manner and complying with all procedures, guidelines and controls.

First and foremost, you demonstrate a natural desire to provide exceptional client service through their energy, enthusiasm, and initiative.

In addition, we are looking for the following qualifications:
  • You ideally have a Bachelor's Degree in law, business or finance.
  • You possess your Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) / Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) designation or are progressing towards one.
  • You have a minimum 10 years of practical general claims experience, including several years leading a team.
  • You possess excellent technical knowledge and understanding of the commercial Property and Casualty insurance and reinsurance business in North America.
  • You are a well-developed strategic thinker with strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Your are motivated and highly organized with strong communication and time management skills.
  • You have advanced software/application knowledge including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and an aptitude for and comfort with claims systems technologies.
  • You demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, adaptability, drive and initiative.
  • You are able to prioritize and function well under pressure.
  • You have the ability to build and nurture strong working relationships with both clients and colleagues.
  • You are able and willing to travel nationally and internationally as needed.
  • You are fluent in English and fluency in French is an asset.
