Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends.
May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland.

Essential Duties
SUMMARY
The Vice President of Instruction (VPI) serves as a member of the executive leadership of the college. The VPI oversees the programs of study designed to serve students aiming to transfer to 4-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree. The VPI is responsible for leadership and supervision of the Dean, Arts & Sciences; Dean College Access & Partnerships; Dean, General Education & Academic Support; and Dean/Executive Director, Institutional Effectiveness & Research as well as other units as assigned by the president. The VPI collaborates closely with the Vice President for Workforce and Strategic Initiatives to assure effective student learning, the quality of instruction, data informed decision-making, the pursuit of academic excellence, and the achievement of the student success agenda.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Participates as a member of the College Executive Leadership Team (ELT) by providing authoritative instructional advice for use in decision-making and establishing the priorities of the College.
Collaborates with other members of the ELT to formulate policy and make high-level decisions that affect the entire College.
Provides leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and improving instructional programs and services, which includes dual enrollment, credit transfer, developmental education, ABE and GED, faculty initiatives and professional development, academic support, assessment, accreditation compliance, alternate delivery methods, and institutional effectiveness.
Provides leadership to assigned Deans to establish college protocols for full-time and adjunct faculty workload, schedule development, and other relevant issues.
Provides leadership and oversight of curriculum development and implementation of curricula, courses, programs and activities within assigned divisions.
Ensures that faculty and programs remain compliant with all applicable internal and external rules, regulations, guidelines, and requirements, including SACSCOC, GIPWE, THECB, and WECM, as well as with Board policies and administrative procedures.
Monitors and administers area budgets. Implements budget controls and performs needs assessments for development of annual budgeting recommendations. Presents the annual budget to the Executive Leadership Team.
Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates instructional programs seeking opportunities for continuous improvement. Makes recommendations to president about the creation, improvement, and deactivation of instructional programs in collaboration with the faculty and deans.
Provides leadership in collaboration with HR, for the recruitment, hiring, orientation, evaluation, retention and professional development of faculty, administrators, and staff.
Participates in the hiring process for the selection of full-time faculty, administrators and staff and collaborates with the President to determine final hiring recommendations as appropriate.
Resolves student, faculty, and Dean's issues and academic appeals through collaboration with faculty, and staff and through the appropriate appeal processes.
Develops and pursues professional relationships with area ISD's, higher education institutions, business and industries, and community organizations to increase educational partnerships that expand the colleges ability to serve the community and determine educational needs within the college's service area.
Leads and/or participates on various college and community committees, meetings, and conferences.
Serves as Co-Chair of the Instructional Leadership Team consisting of Deans and other instructional leaders.
Facilitates communication among all departments within the college.
Serves on regional, statewide, and/or national committees and boards.
May serve as the College's SACSCOC and THECB liaison.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS
The VPI must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Five years of progressive community college administrative experience at the Dean level or above. Or comparable demonstrated success in an administrative leadership role within an educational, governmental, or business/industry setting.
Relevant leadership experience in an educational or business entity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
A proven, wide range of analysis and judgment to meet job situations.
Confirmed ability with independent analysis of broad problems, planning and implementation of various interrelated activities, and the coordination of many departments.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as proficient computer skills.
Established experience and proven skills in leadership, strategic planning, program and/or curriculum design and development, core course and program level outcomes assessment, budget development and management, personnel hiring and evaluation, interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution, and effective written and oral communication.
