We are looking for a dynamic and strategic leader to join our team as Vice President of Manufacturing. This position will oversee the operations of 2 business units at 3 sites in Ontario within our plastics/food packaging and straw manufacturing companies.
This is a key role, responsible for developing and implementing operational strategies, overseeing production processes, and leading a team of managers and staff in both unionized and non-union plants. The focus will be on ensuring efficiency, productivity, and cost-effective operations through maintaining machine efficiency, adhering to industry regulations, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
You will collaborate cross functionally with sales, engineering, human resources, and finance, to support business growth and align operations with customer needs.
Overview
The successful candidate will have a proven ability to direct, plan, and control activities of the manufacturing organization to ensure the highest level of efficiency and most cost-effective operation. They will be responsible for planning and developing organization policies, and implementing goals through managers, supervisors, and frontline employees.
A key focus will be on the cost-effective management of raw materials, labour costs, production machine efficiency, collaboration with customers, sales, and functional capability departments. They will ensure ready production volume to meet customer demands through effective planning and resource allocation.

- Develop and implement strategies for 3 manufacturing sites (Brantford and Mississauga).
- Ensure efficiency and productivity across the three facilities.
- Oversee production processes, supply chain management, continuous improvement, quality assurance, procurement, and production scheduling.
- Focus on the cost-effective management of raw materials and labour.
- Lead and mentor managers and staff in one unionized plant and two non-union plants.
- Regular maintenance, upgrades, and process optimization.
- Ensure adherence to industry regulations, quality standards, safety standards, and company policies.
- Track key performance indicators like OEE, LTI, material scrap & usage, and employee engagement levels.
- Align operations with customer needs and market demands.
- Work with sales, engineering, human resources, and finance departments to support business growth.
- Drive process improvements and enhance product quality.
- Manage budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Utilize the resources and capabilities of sister companies as appropriate.
- Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and client meetings.
- Implement CI and 5S programs.
Requirements
- A Great Attitude!
- In-depth knowledge of PET and PP plastic packaging manufacturing.
- Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proven experience in advancing employee engagement in union and non-union hourly employees.
- 10+ years of experience in operations management in a similar leadership role, preferably in the plastic food manufacturing industry.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Degree in industrial engineering or manufacturing technology preferred.
- Proven history of successfully managing multiple manufacturing business units or facilities.
- Strong knowledge of plastics and food packaging quality and compliance regulations and standards.
- Solid experience in identifying and implementing manufacturing best practices.
- Strong leadership and team management skills in union and non-union work environments.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Able and willing to travel throughout the US and Canada.
