About the Position

The Vice President of Preconstruction will oversee a team of 15 skilled professionals. This individual will be responsible for managing the estimating department and guiding preconstruction efforts across a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial projects. As a key member of the executive team, the VP will play a pivotal role in strategic decision-making, bid strategy, risk management, and mentoring rising talent. Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead and manage the estimating department for hard bids, CM estimates, and design-build proposals
  • Prepare and maintain a weekly bid calendar
  • Evaluate personnel performance and develop growth plans for team members
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and career path development within the department
  • Monitor estimate quality and ensure accuracy using historical data and current trends
  • Direct subcontractor and supplier relationships, reviews, and evaluations
  • Lead project buyouts and ensure alignment with bid-day expectations
  • Participate in business development, marketing efforts, and client presentations
  • Serve as the estimating voice in high-level strategy and corporate initiatives
  • Promote continuous improvement through post-bid analysis and quality control programs
Requirements
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • 10-15 years of experience with a commercial or industrial general contractor
  • Proven leadership experience managing estimating teams and complex project scopes
  • Expertise in hard bid, CM, and design-build estimating methods
  • Proficiency in Suretrack, Excel, Timberline, and other construction technologies
  • Deep understanding of cost trends, labor markets, and subcontractor relationships
  • Commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and long-term departmental development
