The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is to accountable for building and leveraging existing broker relationships to win and retain business. Responsible for applying technical expertise based on best practice and industry standards. Contribute to the achievement of business results that enable organizational growth through consistent application of processes, ensuring appropriate risk selection and pricing. Maintain knowledge base around full spectrum of products and provide input on the introduction of potential new products. Will be responsible for product(s) within a line of business, such as Accident and Health, Aviation, Retail P&C, Wholesale P&C, Financial Lines, and Transactional Liability.

The salary range for this role is: $198,000 - $297,000

Your new role:
Lead and influence the standardization of underwriting across assigned product(s) by holding the team accountable, defining risk assessment parameters, setting quality service standards and developing and leading self-audit initiatives to foster consistent and profitable risk selection
Develop and maintain relationships within and outside QBE to drive new business opportunities
Foster a collaborative approach to growing the business by communicating with peers and identifying profit and loss trends to drive achievement of department profitability objectives
Capitalize on opportunities for continuous improvement by reviewing reports on loss ratios, conducting research on market trends and best practices and leading the implementation of innovative underwriting strategies to enhance portfolio and ensure organization is competitive in the marketplace
Develop sustainable underwriting operations for product(s) by analyzing, refining and enhancing current practices to ensure future planning aligns with long-range business growth objectives

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
10+ years relevant experience

Preferred Experience:
Collaborate at different levels within the organization to accomplish a common goal
Utilize effective research and investigative techniques
Analyze risks, benefits and opportunities to ensure organizational competitiveness and satisfaction of established long-range objectives
Prioritize interests of the company and community during decision-making
Leverage business and financial expertise
Establish a high degree of trust and credibility with others

Preferred Experience
Underwriting experience is required
Specific experience required will vary based on assigned line/s of business
Participation in industry events that support continuous education and superior technical proficiency and underwriting competence
  • E&S experience with wholesale brokers in Midwest Region

Depending on assigned product(s) of business, specific participation and memberships are preferred and may include one or more of the following:
Professional Liability Underwriting Society
Surety & Fidelity Association of America
American Bankers Association and Professional Liability Underwriting Society
or RIMS

Preferred Knowledge
Strong working knowledge of products and insurance operations, underwriting processes and procedures
Strong working knowledge of laws and regulations related to area of responsibility
Strong working knowledge of terminology, concepts and principles related to strategic planning
Strong working knowledge of current organizational strategies
Strong working knowledge of competitive carriers' best practices and market intelligence

Compensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate's professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBE's annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
