VP, Architecture & Data Engineer - Horizon Media
Overview
We are seeking an expert-level Technical Data Engineer to architect and implement our modern data stack at Horizon Media. This role will be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing our data pipelines using Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran, while ensuring data quality, scalability, and business value. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise and hands-on experience with these technologies to drive our data transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Architect and implement advanced data pipelines using dbt, Fivetran, and Snowflake to support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
Design and develop complex data models in dbt, implementing best practices for modularity, testing, and documentation
Configure and optimize Fivetran connectors for diverse data sources, ensuring efficient and reliable data ingestion
Implement sophisticated data transformation logic using Snowflake's native capabilities and dbt macros
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for dbt projects, ensuring code quality through automated testing and deployment
Optimize query performance and resource utilization in Snowflake through careful warehouse sizing, materialization strategies, and query tuning
Implement data quality checks and monitoring across the entire data pipeline
Design and implement data versioning strategies to support multiple environments and enable seamless rollbacks
Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical specifications
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers on best practices and design patterns
Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience as a data engineer with at least 3 years of deep expertise in dbt, Fivetran, and Snowflake
Advanced knowledge of SQL, including complex query optimization and performance tuning in Snowflake
Proven experience designing and implementing large-scale dbt projects, including custom macros, packages, and testing frameworks
Extensive experience configuring and troubleshooting Fivetran connectors for various data sources
Strong understanding of data modeling concepts (dimensional modeling, data vault, etc.) and their implementation in dbt
Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering workflows
Familiarity with Python or other programming languages for data processing and automation
Experience with data quality frameworks and implementation of testing strategies
Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and how it integrates with the modern data stack
Experience in media, advertising, or related industries preferred
Technical Skills
dbt: Advanced modeling, custom macros, packages, documentation, testing frameworks
Fivetran: Connector configuration, troubleshooting, custom transformations, API integration
Snowflake: Performance optimization, resource management, security configuration, stored procedures
SQL: Advanced query writing, performance tuning, window functions, optimization techniques

CI/CD: Implementing automated testing and deployment for data pipelines
Python: Data processing, automation, custom connectors (beneficial)
AWS: S3, Lambda, Glue, and other data-related services (beneficial)

Salary Range
$180,000.00 - $230,000.00
A successful applicant's actual base salary may vary based on factors such as individual's skill sets, experience, training, education, licensure/certifications, and qualifications for the role.
