This role has a hybrid work schedule. We are looking for candidates located near our Marlborough office as this role will require a commute to the office a minimum of three times per week.
Summary:
Under the direction of the SVP, Senior Commercial Lending Officer, develops strategies to sell banking products and services and drives growth in small and medium size businesses in conformance with established Credit Union policies and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
Performs any functions, within scope of authority and expertise, to provide the highest level of service and responsiveness to the members served by the Credit Union.
Essential Functions:
Develops a portfolio of new business with direction provided by senior management, achieving a balance between measured growth and asset quality, while maintaining desired levels of member satisfaction. Contributes to a positive work environment and SMCU image by maintaining courteous, respectful and effective interactions, teamwork and communication with employees and members to enhance positive behaviors and employee satisfaction. Originates commercial business including small business loans through individual business development efforts. Responsible for initial loan qualifying and pre-underwriting and loan processing. Generates commercial deposit relationships Maintains frequent contact with targeted member base to expand member relationships, ensure member retention and meet financial goals and objectives. Works with Small Business Administration (SBA) and other government loan guarantee programs. Develops and implements marketing plans for expanding new or existing member bases and product usage. Identifies prospects and referral sources for solicitation through an internal network and outside professional and civic referral sources. Monitors portfolio and recommends appropriate action on credit quality rating, problem loan recognition and remedial action. Ensures compliance by reviewing appraisals and various other applicable reports Responsible for the business portfolio annual review function, including gathering updated financials and recommending risk ratings. Maintains an awareness of competitive products, practices and pricing reflecting changes in the Credit Union's primary market area. Keep current of economic, financial and political trends to assist in the determination of risk in establishing and maintaining member relationships. Makes recommendations to enhance existing products or introduce new products to meet changing needs. Interacts with Retail team to assist in identifying business prospects. Coaches staff in the areas of sales, application procession and loan closing. Ensure compliance of all operations with established policies and procedures, and continually reviews and upgrades policies and procedures to ascertain accuracy. Prepares and maintains specific regular reports for management, including activity reports, sales reports, and other reports as needed. Performs other related managerial duties as may be assigned or requested.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in coursework, training or experience. Five years of experience in business lending. SBA experience and thorough knowledge of SMA documents and process required. Credit, underwriting experience and risk analysis experience required. Well developed organizational, analytical and decision-making. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license. Local travel will be required.
