GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Goodwill Industries of Arkansas is seeking a Vice President of Development and Community Engagement to develop and grow a well-established Foundation. This member of the Executive Team will develop, implement, and execute marketing, communications, and public relations strategies that support the brand and ensure a positive and consistent image; drive greater profitability through increases in donor and shopper activity; increase mission impact and increase stakeholder engagement including employees and financial donors. This position will work closely with the President/CEO and Board of Directors to formulate and execute a philanthropic development plan with targets, goals, and a realistic timetable. The chosen individual will build the Foundation team and work with Goodwill's executive and Mission Services staff to grow the Foundation and expand the reach and impact of Goodwill's mission of Changing Lives Through Education, Training and Employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Community Engagement and Development team directors.
  • Create and implement a comprehensive development plan to include fundraising strategies, major gifts, annual giving, grants, corporate and planned giving, prospect research, stewardship, and special events to maximize visibility, donor engagement, and revenue.
  • Oversee all grant writing, private donations, pledges, and in-kind gifts to ensure alignment with the organization's funding priorities.
  • Lead Moves Management strategies for donor cultivation, stewardship, and retention, engaging board members and senior leaders.
  • Together with the CEO and other VPs, develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to position Goodwill as the premierthrift store, a leading nonprofit, and a top recipient of donor support.
  • Maintain a performance measurement system (analyzing market trends) to track progress toward annual and strategic objectives, including measuring ROI on campaigns and initiatives.
  • Ensure effective donor stewardship programs and accurate donor database management, including any database conversion projects.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of major donors, setting benchmarks for visits, proposals, and revenue.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and Mission Services staff to align development and engagement efforts with organizational strategy and ensure fundraising requests meet program needs.
  • Oversee all phases of production and marketing of communications materials, including newsletters, brochures, websites, digital and social media, annualreports, advertisements, and other stakeholder communications.
  • Participate in relevant community events to enhance Goodwill's visibility and impact.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for Goodwill, engaging media, government officials, businesses, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee special events and fundraisers such as the Annual Awards Luncheon, store grand openings, and board/staff events.
  • Track, report, and maintain key performance indicators to measure the impact of fundraising ROI, marketing efforts, and community outreach campaigns and initiatives.
  • Engage with the Board of Directors and Foundation Committee as needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed. In-state travel is required, with occasional out-of-state travel as necessary.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree, plus 10 to 12 years related experience and/or training, and 5 to 7 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and understand the most complex documents; ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

    CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
