The Opportunity:

The Vice President of Marketing is a key member of the M&M leadership Team, reporting directly to the President of M&M. They will lead the M&M Marketing team as a stand-alone marketing department within the broader Parkland organization, working closely and partnering with the central Parkland Marketing team to leverage capabilities and drive success for the M&M brand and Franchise network.

The Vice President, Marketing is responsible for leading the strategic and tactical marketing operations across all channels, as well as the food and innovation strategy for the M&M brand. Key to this role is the ability to champion and bring to life the customer marketing strategy digitally, including leveraging loyalty and ecommerce as a competitive advantage in conjunction with the central Parkland marketing team (as appropriate) to leverage digital and loyalty scale and synergies. They will have a passion for food and bring extensive knowledge of Canadian consumers, the food retail landscape and ideally franchising.

In support of the company's corporate strategic goals, objectives and continued growth, the Vice President, Marketing is mandated with maximizing brand equity, sales, profitability and product market share, and to ensure the seamless execution of the annual marketing and business plan with internal teams and agencies.

Leading a dedicated marketing team of 20+, the Vice President, Marketing will provide leadership and direction to the marketing team on all marketing related projects and activities, ensuring high quality, integrity and brand loyalty. As the department leader, the Vice President, Marketing will lead the collaboration and partnership of the M&M Marketing team and the central Parkland marketing team.

The ideal candidate must have exceptional communication, relationship building, influencing and analytical skills, as well as a sound understanding of retail, franchising, branding theory, consumer segments and knowledge of the Canadian and North America markets. He/she must be strategic and innovative, with strong business acumen and ability to deliver meaningful business results through relevant consumer solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop the annual marketing and food strategy business plan and manage the marketing fund P&L.
  • Lead project teams to create/influence branding strategies, develop sales and lead new product/consumer solution development and growth strategies.
  • Liaise with outside agencies to deliver effective media plans, develop engaging promotions and on-line strategies to engage consumers with the brand and build brand awareness.
  • Create marketing programs and strategies across all channels to attract and develop the new customer base at M&M Food Market.
  • Develop a multi-cultural strategy to attract and retain new customers and diversify the M&M customer base.
  • Lead and elevate the M&M digital marketing strategies and programs, with an emphasis on loyalty and ecommerce initiatives, to maximize the brands presence and results, with the ultimate aim of driving new customer acquisition.
  • Collaborate with the central Parkland Marketing team to drive the development and integration of the M&M loyalty program with the Parkland Journie program and other loyalty partners, to create a world-class loyalty program for the M&M brand.
  • Lead the project team for the re-platforming of the M&M ecommerce site.
  • Leverage the Regional/Local Store Marketing program to identify specific regional marketing goals, working closely with Store Operations, Franchise Partners, and Express Partners to help them reach new customers, build brand awareness, and increase sales via targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Collaborate closely with the centralized consumer insights team to create data-driven marketing programs and promotions that are relevant for M&M customers.
  • Work with the operations, category management, PDQA, FP&A teams and the extended company organization to communicate and fulfill business objectives and manage unplanned account or brand specific issues.
  • Evolve and develop a strong, high performing Marketing team to deliver continued growth, profitability and market share.
  • Strengthen M&M Food Market leadership in Frozen food and Food retail and create a sustainable platform for growth in Canada and Internationally.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in R&D, FP&A, Strategic Analytics, and QA to identify innovation and product and promotion development opportunities and efficiencies.
  • Build strong relationships with internal as well as external stakeholders, positively challenging the status quo to find innovative ways to differentiate and add distinct value.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in marketing or a related business discipline.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of leadership and brand management experience within progressive, consumer-centric Food Retail, Consumer Packaged Goods, or Foodservice organizations.
  • Priority will be given to candidates with Food Retail experience within a Franchising business environment.
  • Previous experience developing and leading successful eCommerce programs is a key asset.
  • A track record of successfully delivering innovation, continued growth, profitability and market share, with demonstrated success taking long-tenured businesses to the next level of performance.
  • Possesses a deep understanding of the marketplace, competitive landscape and consumer decision making in an increasingly digital world and the ability to deliver a seamless value proposition therein.
  • An engaging leader who is curious, creative and has strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to influence others.
  • A champion of change who has both short-term and long-term vision and can inspire, create and manage change with expert skill.

  • Ability to travel both in North America and internationally, with moderate frequency.
