Overview

The Vice President, Operational & Enterprise Risk Management, a deputy to the Credit Union's Chief Risk Officer (CRO), is responsible for developing and leading the credit union's operational and enterprise risk management framework. This role oversees the identification, assessment, monitoring, and management of operational risks while integrating enterprise risk management (ERM) into strategic decision-making. The VP partners with business units to help ensure that risk management is embedded in daily operations and aligned with regulatory expectations and industry leading practices

Responsibilities

  • With the CRO, develop, implement, and enhance the enterprise risk management framework to identify, assess, and manage risks across the credit union.
  • Establish and maintain the risk governance structure, ensuring a coordinated approach to risk identification, mitigation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and business units to integrate risk considerations into strategic planning and business objectives.
  • Develop risk appetite and tolerance statements, ensuring alignment with the credit union's financial stability and growth goals.
  • Conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments, scenario analysis, and root cause analysis to identify vulnerabilities and emerging risks.
  • In partnership with the VP in Data/AI Risk Governance, lead the development of key risk indicators (KRIs) and risk dashboards to proactively monitor and help manage enterprise risks.
  • Help implement and oversee risk control self-assessment (RCSA) processes to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls.
  • Help ensure operational and enterprise risk policies, procedures, and controls comply with NCUA, FFIEC, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare risk reports and presentations for executive leadership, the Board of Directors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, emerging threats, and industry risk management advancements, ensuring the credit union remains compliant and resilient.
  • Oversee the Business Continuity Management (BCM) program, ensuring comprehensive disaster recovery and crisis response plans.
  • Establish protocols for operational incident/event reporting, response, and recovery to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Conduct regular risk scenario testing, including tabletop exercises, to ensure readiness for potential threats.
  • Foster a risk-aware culture by providing guidance, training, and risk education across the organization.
  • Lead and develop a team of risk management professionals, promoting a proactive and collaborative approach to risk management.
  • Work closely with other risk leaders, including financial risk and compliance teams, to ensure an integrated risk management approach.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to influence senior executives and Board members.
  • Expertise in enterprise and operational risk assessment, monitoring tools, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in risk management software, data analytics tools, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms.
  • Excellent attention to details, communication and presentation skills to effectively convey risk insights and recommendations.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build strong relationships across business units.
  • Understand and comply with all applicable federal and state laws and banking regulations (including those related to OFAC and Bank Secrecy Act / Anti-Money Laundering compliance) and Patelco Credit Union's policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 12+ years of experience in operational and enterprise risk management, preferably within a credit union, bank, or financial institution.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise risk management (ERM), internal controls, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with risk assessment methodologies, business continuity planning, and incident response management.
  • Preferred Certifications:
  • Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (CERP)
  • Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)
  • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM)
  • Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
  • Business Continuity Professional (CBCP)
  • This role is based in Dublin HQ

Target Base Pay

$260,000 - $275,000/year
