Position Summary
We are seeking a dynamic Vice President of Operations to lead S. Mechanical, a Crete United company based in Chicago, IL. As VP of Operations, you will be accountable for the full operational and financial performance of the business, leading strategic initiatives, overseeing field and office teams, and ensuring world-class service delivery across all commercial HVAC and MEP offerings.

This role offers the opportunity to drive growth, efficiency, and culture at the local company level, while aligning with Crete United's broader national vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of S. Mechanical's daily operations, including service, construction, and project execution teams
  • Drive profitability through efficient workflows, optimized labor strategies, and margin-focused decision-making
  • Collaborate with sales and estimating to ensure accurate, profitable, and timely project execution
  • Implement best-in-class operational processes, safety programs, and quality control standards
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, KPIs, and operational reporting to meet or exceed revenue, margin, and EBITDA targets
  • Build and mentor high-performing teams with a focus on training, succession planning, and career development
  • Act as the executive sponsor for major clients, ensuring satisfaction and long-term relationship value
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement aligned with Crete's values
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, compliance, and risk management protocols
  • Partner with the executive team to align S. Mechanical's operations with long-term strategic goals


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in commercial/industrial mechanical (HVAC/MEP) operations
  • P&L responsibility for a business unit or company with $20M+ annual revenue
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a field service or construction environment
  • Strong financial acumen, operational process development, and team-building skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities-capable of motivating field leaders and gaining client trust
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, performance-driven culture
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with ERP/job costing software preferred
