Job Summary
The VP Product Management directs product management & delivery for solutions for Credit Union members and employees, and reports As both a leader of cross-functional teams and an actively-engaged partner on business priorities for other business teams, the VP Product Management is expected to use both internal and external perspectives along with innovative application of existing and novel technologies to proactively drive business-focused solution delivery to accomplish MACU's goals and objectives.

This role is expected to be a people leader and coach the next generation of product managers. To do so, they should have extensive experience working with software engineering teams as well as vendors to get solutions to market. They should have experience successfully managing a team, as well as years of hands-on experience working with engineering in daily stand ups and weekly refinements.

This role is expected to be a strategic leader and know how to a create multi-year vision (roadmap) to support the broader MACU vision and our business partner needs.

This role will lead a team focused on leveraging AI to develop innovative solutions. Practical, real-world experience in AI product strategy, particularly with applications in a service center / call center are essential for success in this role.

Job Description

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully.

  • Collaborates with business leaders: We are not seeking a "CEO of the product" mindset. Instead, we value a collaborative approach where technology partners with our business leaders to create solutions that drive significant impact for the credit union. This position will lead a monthly steering committee where priorities are set alongside business partners.


  • Continuously represents business partners and their objectives in close partnership with the PMO, Engineering, Risk Management, and any applicable third-party partners to ensure the desired business outcomes are achieved, on time and within budget.


  • In close conjunction with the PMO, facilitates important scope change discussions with business teams and ensures decisions and trade-offs are well understood, documented, and resulting impacts to delivery scope or timing are communicated.


  • Leads cross-functional teams to ensure high quality, timely outcomes on highly visible initiatives with high risk and complexity for multiple MACU business units and provides exceptional systems experiences to employees.


  • Creates, maintains, and enforces relevant written policies, standards, controls, and processes regarding product management operations in the assigned technology area.


  • Creates and maintains multi-million-dollar budget


  • Operates with autonomy on operational matters and achievement of departmental goals and has significant contribution to achieving functional goals; accountable to Sr Leadership


  • Models the MACU AAA service philosophy, by assessing each business partner need, advising them on paths forward (which may include building, buying, or partnering), and assisting the organization forward with the path the business has chosen.


  • Leads partner selection process and negotiates with outside vendors on multi-million-dollar contracts, committing a significant portion of credit union resources.


  • Fosters strong and meaningful alignment with our third parties and effectively represents MACU's interests.


Strategic Impact:

  • Set strategic direction and contributes overall strategic plan horizon of 3-5 years while building for the future technologically through genuine product and service innovation to support longer term organizational objectives and aligning with MACU's mission, vision, and values and directly aligning the business prioritized needs and objectives.


  • Partners with Business leadership to drive product innovation to keep MACU on the leading edge of technology such that member and team member expectations are met or exceeded with measured, trended user-satisfaction results that prove the right outcomes are occurring.


  • Works through required client and regulatory due diligence around MACU's technology programs.


  • Creates and maintains visual product roadmap that addresses needs of business and facilitates roadmap communication.


Analytical Thinking & Problem Solving

  • Recommends solutions to complex strategic issues of importance to the company and business unit leadership


  • Ensures regulatory compliance related to product development and member privacy with a robust inventory of audited controls that prove compliance.


  • Ensures evaluation, selection, and implementation of solutions that contain the architecture necessary to achieve MACU's standards for scalability, availability, and security while optimizing cost.


  • Enables MACU business to have a competitive advantage through measurably improved service quality and user satisfaction while controlling costs through effective resource allocation and service capacity measurement systems.


  • As needed, provides support to respond to application-level issues and defects, owning crisis events to completion.


  • Leads team to create clear acceptance criteria to support testing standards and processes to produce quality systems.


Leadership & Organization Development

  • Expertly models the MACU Way and Leadership Way behavioral standards.


  • Leads, manages, trains, mentors, and hires the product management teams responsible for working with business leaders to design, develop and deploy MACU solutions which support significant business processes which contribute to revenue target attainment.


  • Builds strong relationships with business leaders across the enterprise and develops a detailed understanding of their issues, challenges, and opportunities as it relates to member experiences and delivery of MACU solutions to members and uses network to accomplish objectives.


  • Adapts leadership style to the situation and coaches to individual needs as well as coaches other coaches for skill mastery.


  • Is responsible for orchestration of talent development & movement across the business unit or function.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, with a focus on enterprise scale technology solutions.


  • 8+ years' leadership experience overseeing technology product teams. Ability to recruit, engage and coach employee performance.


  • Candidates must have experience in building and launching AI-driven solutions.


  • Experience with Call Center Technology preferred


EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, information science or related field.


  • Master's Degree strongly preferred


LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Certified Scrum Master (CSM), or Product Management certification a plus.


MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Has leadership/managerial responsibilities that are direct or through work leaders or assistants, typically with a subordinate group of 3 to 10 employees. Estimates personnel needs and assigns work to meet these needs. Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff. Recommends candidates for employment, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff, and applies company policy.

  • Effectively manage team capacity against the business needs and priorities of the Credit Union - ensuring the right focus and urgency are allocated accordingly. Produce relevant metrics resulting from the team's identified system for resource planning/time tracking.


  • Actively manage performance, develop talent, and create career paths and sustainable succession plans.


  • Assist the product team with, and as needed, perform the needed hands-on troubleshooting and support of production issues and efforts


  • Building a strong technical culture around our business systems that emphasizes technical excellence, rapid iteration, strong security, and frictionless user experiences.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Strong budget and/or revenue acumen.


  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills and expertise in Excel to utilize data for uncovering insights, organizing teams, and developing strategies.


  • Proficient in PowerPoint, with the ability to convey ideas creatively and effectively.


  • Results driven and proactive, with a strong sense of urgency and accountability


  • A strategic approach, with the ability to lead and motivate your team


  • Able to promote and maintain high standards of customer service at all times, improving outcomes for employees and Credit Union members.


  • Strong organizational and management skills promoting cross functional collaboration and mutual desire for results.
