Responsibilities

Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to lead food safety and quality for the Post Consumer Brands Grocery business, currently comprised of cereal and peanut butter at Post Consumer Brands (PCB), with potential to acquire other categories. The Grocery QFS organization includes a corporate QFS team and QFS staff across 8 plants. The PCB Grocery business includes Post brands such as Honey Bunches of Oats, Fruity Pebbles, Honeycomb and Great Grains; the Malt-O-Meal cereal brand; and Peter Pan peanut butter, as well as private label cereal. This role reports to SVP RDQ, and is located at the PCB headquarters in Lakeville, Minnesota.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Provide leadership to all Grocery business departments and individuals in product quality and food safety to maintain a World Class Quality and Food Safety culture.
  • Comply fully with all regulatory compliance requirements, maintaining the company position as a food industry leader in Quality Assurance and Food Safety.
  • Actively participate in the long-term profitable growth of the business while ensuring we meet or exceed all QFS standards.
  • Build, coach, manage, train, and promote a high-performing FSQA team and department culture.
  • Partner closely with business partners within the PCB Grocery BU, including Operations/Supply Chain, Marketing, Legal/Regulatory, and R&D, to drive business objectives.
  • Direct the activities of Quality Assurance and Food Safety personnel at all Grocery locations, across the Grocery corporate team (~18 HC) and plant teams (8 plants currently). The corporate team includes Operations QFS, External QFS, and Sanitation. The total Grocery QFS org is comprised of ~66 employees.
  • Provide direction and guidance to plant Quality Managers and the Operations team in prevention and resolution of critical food safety and food hygiene challenges.
  • Partner closely with Operations and the plants, driving quality, food safety, and business objectives. Provide transparency to the recommended costs to ensure quality.
  • Ensure critical QFS mature programs and Food Safety Plans are in place, eg micro testing, sanitation, HACCP, CAPA and supplier quality. Ensure the success of internal auditing programs and overall SQF compliance.
  • Ensure the PCB Grocery business is well positioned to execute in special situations, including effective execution in the event of market withdrawals or recalls, leveraging a robust track and trace system.
  • Evaluate gaps in FSQA programs through the use of multi-disciplinary team root cause analysis, ensuring that corrective actions are effective.
  • Oversee cost assessments, budgeting/capitalization, and resource management to carry out the mission of delivering safe, quality food while also meeting business objectives.
  • Ensure the effective QFS integration of new food businesses or plants in the event of further acquisitions.
  • Provide food safety and quality subject matter expertise for continuous improvement and strategic growth plans.
  • Partner closely with Post Holdings QFS, Legal and Regulatory leadership.
  • Partner closely with the Pet QFS leader and Micro/Food Safety leader within Post Consumer Brands to ensure consistency in team standards, process standards and talent sharing.
  • While reporting directly to the RDQ leader of PCB, this role has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Post Holdings VP QFS and the Grocery VP of Operations.

  • Advanced HACCP, Preventative Control Quality Individual, and SQF Practitioner certifications.

  • Travel as needed, up to ~25% travel.

Qualifications

Education

BS degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Agricultural engineering or other closely related field; Master's degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum 20 years' experience in the food industry including quality assurance, food production, food safety, 10+ years experience in supervision of professional staff, and operations leadership experience in Quality. Extensive knowledge of quality and food safety systems related to food hygiene, HACCP, sanitation, root cause analysis, verification/validation, compliance standards, and cGMPs. Experience with State and Federal regulatory agencies (FDA) and 3rd party/customer food safety audits.
The pay range for this position is $148,589 - $243,686 per year.
