Why does the job exist?
This challenging position is to supervise technical staff who oversee the investigations and remediation of petroleum contaminated sites resulting from leaking underground and aboveground storage tanks in accordance with the corrective action regulation for storage tank systems containing petroleum products and other regulated substances.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for managing and facilitating corrective action at complex underground and aboveground storage tank release sites and supervises staff. Duties include:
- Supervision of project managers including both administrative and personnel duties
- Providing technical guidance and setting priorities for project managers
- Reviews geological and chemical site data and evaluates applicable remediation strategies
- Team driven approval of technical scopes of work and proposed costs
- Oversight of corrective action contractors and interaction with the regulated community
- Reviewing and approving technical data and reports

- New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
- Internal staff
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Investigation and remediation of petroleum contaminated soil and groundwater or other regulated substances
- Regulatory framework
- Detail oriented and has effective communication skills, and able to serve as a steward of the Corrective Action Fund.
- Strong supervisory and project management skills
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in a related Water Resources discipline (Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Biology, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science, Emergency Management, or Engineering) and six (6) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications. No substitutions apply for semester hours.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico. Must posses OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training or have it successfully completed with one (1) year of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Required to drive a state vehicle. As much as 30% of time may be in a field setting conducting corrective action site audits.
