OPEN POSITION: Controller
DEPARTMENT: Accounting/Finance
REPORTS TO: Director of Finance
PAY RATE: D.O.E.
POSITION STATUS: Full-Time
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the casino, including the production of monthly and yearend financial statements. Directs the formulation and administration of department policies and procedures for the accounting department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the management of the Accounting, Payables, Receivables, and Revenue Audit areas and serves as the primary authority for approval of transactions recorded in the general ledger.
Ensures the integrity of all financial data produced by the department.
Appraises operating results, and reviews trend analyses of revenue and cost centers for opportunities to increase revenues and reduce costs.
Reviews operational, capital, and cash flow budget variances in preparation for discussions with appropriate personnel.
Develops, maintains, and implements internal controls and departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with all financial aspects of the Fort McDowell Gaming Ordinance, the NIGA Minimum Internal Control Standards, and the FMYN/State of Arizona Compact.
Ensures IRS compliance with the accurate and timely filing of W-2, 1042, and 1099 filing and record retention.
Develops or reviews for approval, all regulatory filings with the FMC, Internal Revenue Service, and State of Arizona.
Oversees annual & periodic examinations performed by auditors from various sources.
Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Must have knowledge of the principles of finance management, administration, and supervision
Must have knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting for a multi-faceted enterprise
Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Must have knowledge of Tribal, State and Federal laws, regulations, policies and practices governing finance
Must have knowledge of FinCen BSA laws regarding regulatory compliance and reporting.
Skill in planning, organizing, directing, and managing projects
Skill in using computer and financial and word processing software
Advanced skills in written and oral communications
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with subordinates, colleagues, superiors, vendors, the public, the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Tribal Council and others
Must be able to obtain and maintain State/Tribal License (including extensive background check).
Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
Must agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA or equivalent experience
Minimum seven (7) years of prior controller experience preferably within a casino/gaming environment.
Must have an understanding of pronouncements from applicable professional accounting bodies that govern Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
INDIAN PREFERENCE:
Preference will be given to qualified applicants who are members of federally recognized Native American tribes. To be considered for Native American Preference, you must submit your Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or Tribal ID with your application.
