Job Summary:
We are seeking a Welding Engineer with a strong emphasis on resistance welding to support and optimize welding processes in a high-paced aerospace production environment. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in resistance welding techniques, particularly spot welding, while also possessing a broad understanding of other welding processes, such as TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), and laser welding. This role is critical in ensuring weld quality, process efficiency, and compliance with industry standards while driving continuous improvement and innovation in welding technologies, tooling design, and operator training.
Key Responsibilities:
* Primary Focus: Resistance Welding - Develop, optimize, and qualify resistance welding processes (e.g., spot welding, seam welding, projection welding) for aluminum and stainless-steel components in aerospace applications.
* Establish and refine weld schedules, ensuring consistent quality and repeatability in production welding operations.
* Secondary Focus: Broader Welding Expertise - Support additional welding processes, including TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), laser welding, and other fusion welding techniques, to enhance manufacturing flexibility and troubleshoot complex weld-related challenges.
* Conduct material analysis (failure analysis, metallurgical inspections, life predictions) and define requirements for weld tooling, hardware, and structures.
* Monitor weld quality through data analysis, identifying trends, implementing corrective actions, and optimizing production and rework/repair processes.
* Review and approve subcontractor welding procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality protocols.
* Perform and oversee weld inspections, including visual, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, and X-ray evaluations, applying both destructive and nondestructive testing methods to validate weld integrity.
* Develop recovery plans for welding defects, ensuring rapid, effective resolutions that maintain quality and structural integrity.
* Train and mentor welding operators and junior engineers, fostering knowledge transfer and process standardization across the team.
Required Qualifications:
* Strong expertise in resistance welding (spot welding, seam welding, projection welding), with a focus on aluminum and stainless-steel aerospace components.
* Experience in weld schedule development, process optimization, and tool design for resistance welding applications.
* Familiarity with additional welding processes, such as TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), and laser welding.
* Knowledge of inspection and testing methods (visual, dye penetrant, ultrasonic, X-ray) and metallurgical evaluation techniques.
* Proficiency in analyzing and resolving welding quality issues, implementing process improvements, and driving corrective actions.
* Ability to develop and maintain weld procedures in compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and other aerospace industry standards.
* Strong problem-solving and technical communication skills, with experience working in aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Hands-on experience with advanced resistance welding automation systems and real-time weld data analysis.
* Experience with failure analysis, material property evaluation, and lifecycle predictions for aerospace components.
* Working knowledge of weld simulation software, robotic welding systems, and advanced non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques.
Why Join Us?
* Work on cutting-edge aerospace welding technologies in a collaborative and high-impact environment.
* Be a key player in advancing resistance welding techniques and optimizing weld quality and efficiency.
* Competitive salary, benefits, and career growth opportunities in a leading aerospace production team.
Belcan provides a competitive pay and benefits package. Benefits offered MAY include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 401(k); education assistance; paid time off including PTO, holidays, and paid leave required by law.
