Position: Welding Engineer/Metallurgist
Location: Houston

Position Overview:
We seek an experienced Welding Engineer with a strong background in metallurgy to optimize welding processes, manage material specification, ensure product integrity, and drive innovation in our valve manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in welding engineering within heavy machinery, pressure equipment, or valve manufacturing, with expertise in material science and metallurgical analysis.
Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Welding Process Development:
Design, qualify, and implement welding procedures (WPS/PQR) compliant with ASME Section IX, API 6D, and ISO 15614.
Optimize parameters for TIG, MIG, SMAW, and laser welding processes.
Ensure compliance with NACE MR0175 for sour service applications.
Metallurgical Expertise:
Create and manage material specifications for ASTM materials, carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex, super alloys for valve components.
Assist the development of new coating for HVOF application.
Conduct failure analysis of welds, including microstructure evaluation, hardness testing, and corrosion resistance assessments.
Quality Assurance:
Oversee weld inspections (VT, PT, RT, UT) and ensure adherence to ASME B16.34 and PED 2014/68/EU.
Address non-conformities and implement corrective actions for welding defects (e.g., porosity, cracking).
Technical Leadership:
Train welders and technicians on best practices, safety protocols, and new welding technologies.
Work with R&D to develop advanced welding techniques for high-pressure/temperature valve applications.
Documentation & Compliance:
Maintain records of welding procedures, certifications, and material traceability.
Ensure adherence to HSE standards and industry regulations (OSHA, AWS D1.1).
Core Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Metallurgy.
AWS Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) preferred.
Experience:
5-10 years in welding engineering, preferably in valve manufacturing, pressure vessels, or oil & gas equipment.
Proficiency in welding simulation software (e.g., Simufact Welding) and CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
Experience with cryogenic valve welding or cladding processes (e.g., Inconel overlay).
Technical Skills:
In-depth knowledge of ferrous/non-ferrous metallurgy, heat treatment, and post-weld NDE methods.
Familiarity with automated welding systems and robotic welding integration.
Fluency in industry standards (API, ASME, EN).
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma principles.
Experience with ERP system.
