The Prince William County Department of Development Services has an exciting opportunity for a Zoning Branch Supervisor. The Zoning Branch is responsible for the approval of zoning applications in accordance with the zoning ordinance, proffers, and special use permit conditions.This position is responsible for the management and supervision of the Zoning Branch and is part of the Land Development Division managed by the Land Development Division Chief, which also includes Site Plan Project Management and Bonds Administration.

About This Role:

Management of the Zoning Branch includes:
  • The day-to-day operations of the zoning counter serving the public
  • The online eportal zoning application submissions process
  • The sign program
  • Responsibility for financial transactions and petty cash
  • Supervising, educating, and training staff, including 6 Planners and a Senior Planner
  • The interpretation of the zoning ordinance, proffers, and conditions
  • Keeping the Zoning Branch staff up to date on changes to the comprehensive plan, the zoning ordinance, and other code

Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or G.E.D. and 7 years of related (planning, zoning, or land use) experience.

Preferences:
In addition to the minimum requirements, the preferred candidate will have 3-4 years of management and supervisory experience, a masters or bachelor's in planning or related field, and be a Virginia Association of Zoning Officials Certified Zoning Administrator.

Work Schedule:
The work schedule is 7.5-hour workdays, Monday through Friday. This is a telework eligible position that may revert to in-office scheduling if business needs change.

Special Requirements:
Certification as a Certified Zoning Administrator by the Virginia Associate of Zoning Officials is required.

Hiring Salary Range:
$82,777.50 - $105,077.20
