Description:
A non-profit legal organization is seeking an Attorney to join its Chicago, IL office. The attorney will provide legal representation to youth who are charged with felonies and misdemeanors and are residing in the West and South side communities. The attorney will be mentored by the legal supervisor and director of legal, as well as will partnering with cases managers, community partners, and restorative legal defense services in juvenile court.
Day-to-day responsibilities may include:
* Appear in court for all hearings, from detention to probation status checks.
* Conduct and/or direct case investigations, including witness interviews and scene visits.
* Research, write, and litigate pre-litigation motions and serve as first or second chair in hearings and trials.
* Collaborate with the firm's social services staff, legal interns, and partners to ensure that needed legal and social services are integrated and coordinated for clients.
This is a full-time position, hybrid 3 days a week onsite in Chicago, IL.
Required Skills & Experience
* Licensed to practice in Illinois or eligibility for admission to the Illinois bar
* At least 1 years of experience litigating felonies and familiarity with Cook County OR interest in starting a career in this area and have some sort of exposure to criminal defense
* Excellent research and writing skills
