Fluid Dynamics Engineer

This position supports the design and analysis of a unique arc-jet test facility that simulates hypersonic environments. The individual selected for this position will work on the leading edge of research and development of new technologies that directly support national security. They will use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze plasma flows and work hand-in-hand with designers to improve facility design. They will solve intriguing problems that lie at the intersection of fluid dynamics, materials science, and mechanical engineering. We are seeking candidates who enjoy solving tough engineering problems working on a team of high performers.

Daily duties will involve:

• Using CFD to analyze and predict plasma flows
• Specify instrumentation for data collection, collect data, and then reduce and analyze data
• Create reduced-order models from complex experimental data sets
• Communicate with designers on recommended design changes to achieve flow objectives

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited institution in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or other directly relevant fields with 4+ years of experiene or 2+ years with a Master's degree
• Field experience with computational fluid dynamics:
  • Determining transfer and describing functions
  • Determining stability and resonance in flows
  • Developing closed loop controls
• Candidates must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area

Other Qualifications

Masters degree preferred, not required

Experience with plasma flows preferred, not required

Familiarity with magnetohydrodynamics preferred, not required

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
