As a Hardware Engineer II on the Azure Boost Storage Acceleration Hardware team, you will be responsible for micro-architecture and hardware module design, timing closure, building, rigorously verifying and testing hardware systems, and deploying accelerated storage services. You'll drive the next generation of accelerated storage through hardware-first protocols like Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe), optimizing design for improved IO per second (IOPS), bandwidth, latency, and overhead. Responsibilities:

  • You will capture unit and module level details in a micro-architecture document. You'll also be responsible for implementations derived from the micro-architecture.
  • You will collaborate with the design verification team and partner software teams to ensure appropriate test requirements and review testing plans to determine the coverage of the module requirements. You'll also write design verification test cases, and develop and execute moderately complex test plans.
  • You'll provide input on a project schedule as you deliver the hardware engineering aspects of a moderately complex feature or product.
  • You will identify common project risks, communicate team progress, and create detailed reports for products and features. You'll also develop and deliver training, as well as document complex details.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of digital hardware design experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing a digital design with a Hardware Description Language (e.g. System Verilog, VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL)).
  • 3+ years of experience verifying and validating Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) or Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) hardware designs.
Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of digital hardware design experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience with High Level Synthesis
  • Familiarity with Python or related scripting languages
  • Experience with Field Programmable Gate Array (FGPA) or Application Specific Integrated Circuit Registered Transfer Language (ASIC RTL) build systems and tooling
  • Understanding of computer architecture and Hardware/Software interfaces
Hardware Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
