Job Description
Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are responsible for performing and supervising a variety of advanced professional tasks involved in land surveying geodetic surveying, American Land Title Association (ALTA)/American Congress on Surveying and Mapping (ACSM) surveys, dependent or independent surveys and resurveys of the public land system; serve as an expert witness for state and local agencies, consultants and the public; to bear a high level of liability for professional survey decisions; and supervise the work of one or more survey location parties.

This is the specialist level where incumbents perform professional surveying work in establishing land boundaries for various activities such as highway right-of-way acquisitions and for other purposes as directed by higher authority and oversee multiple survey crews and/or multiple survey projects including urban projects involving numerous or multiple platted subdivisions or complex interchange projects.
Education and Experience
Level I:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as a Land Surveyor with the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Level II:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of registration as a Land Surveyor with the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and two years of land surveying experience subsequent to registration.
Special Requirements
Some positions may require possession of a valid Oklahoma Driver's license or commercial driver's license at time of appointment in order to operate required equipment or vehicles or that selected applicants pass a drug test prior to appointment. Some agencies may have determined positions in this job family to be safety sensitive as defined by 63 O.S. 427.8.

Typical Functions
- Evaluates existing and original land survey records, field evidence and previous surveys in re-establishing section and half section, city, state, federal, private and tribal land corner monuments and reference monuments.
- Conducts title searches through review of current ownership, easements and deeds using knowledge of cadastral information, existing plats, filed deeds and easements.
- Interprets and/or determines property descriptions of parcels of land.
- Re-establishes the exact boundaries of cities, towns and legal subdivisions, tribal and other government lands as shown on field plats of Government Land Office (GLO) notes; maintains High Accuracy Reference Network (HARN) and National Geodetic Survey (NGS) networks.
- Establishes researches and determines control monumentation for alignments or alternate alignments of proposed freeways, complex interchanges, bridges, highways, easements or rights-of-way.
- Locates, deciphers and interprets watersheds and their flow characteristics for hydrological studies and/or bridge design functions.
- Trains subordinate employees.
