This position performs the duties of a Staff Physician responsible for comprehensive health and medical care services to chronic and same-day visit patients in a primary care setting. Duties:
Interviews and examines patients, reviews past medical history, performs admission history and physical; requests and/or performs and follows-up with diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case. Makes preliminary diagnosis, directs, prescribes, provides treatment, and arranges for specialized care, patient referrals, or transfers to higher level of care as required. Bases decisions upon information obtained, professional medical knowledge and skills and prescribed policies and procedures. Makes notes of observations to be incorporated into clinical records. Provides a full range of emergency services or crisis intervention including lifesaving emergency procedures in order to stabilize a patient sufficiently until a higher level of care is available. Provides total patient care including preventing health maintenance, early diagnosis, treatment and follow up services to patients. Conducts outpatient clinics making observations appropriate to the outpatient's underlying disease and treatment plan, including current symptoms. Reviews the patient's medications, diet, therapy course, adherence to management plan and patient observations. Modifies regimen as indicated. Instructs and counsels patients and family members as required. Consultation with hospitalist and emergency department staff regarding inpatient admissions. Makes appropriate referrals and obtains appropriate consultation after primary evaluation and documentation have been completed. Assures preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent data needed to provide comprehensive medical care. Dictates or types clinical reports summaries and correspondence concerning patients under provider's care in a timely manner (daily completion of inpatient progress notes). Works closely with healthcare professionals to utilize and coordinate the services in the management of the family's medical, psychological and social problems. Assumes responsibility for medical, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, interns or residents assigned for training at NDHC. Serves as a consultant to other medical staff regarding complicated internal medicine and/or obstetric patients and/or pediatric patients based on specialty training. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: No additional experience required outside of a completed training program as identified in the education qualifications listed below. EDUCATION: Completion of an accredited Medical School Program. Completion of an accredited Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Residency Program. Board Eligible or Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Board of Internal Medicine. Active, unrestricted Medical License from any U.S State or Territory.
