Controller Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controller to join our team. The successful candidate will manage the company's financial records and accounts as well as provide financial guidance and analysis to the executive team. This position will coordinate the preparation of financial statements, analyze results, and provide accurate and timely reporting to management. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will assist with the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.
Controller Duties and Responsibilities
Manage all aspects of accounting; billing, financial statements, general ledger, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, tax compliance, inventory accounting, revenue recognition, and various special analyses
Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and accounts in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Monitor and analyze financial performance, develop reports, and provide recommendations to improve performance
Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Make recommendations to improve organizational efficiency and cost-effectiveness
Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
Monitor cash and funding balances
Prepare and review budgets
Oversee payroll and tax compliance
Collaborate with external auditors and other stakeholders
Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding finances, tax filings, and reporting
Additional controller duties as needed
Controller Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
5+ years of experience in accounting and financial management preferred
Exceptional knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Proficient in accounting software, databases, and spreadsheets (i.e. QuickBooks and Excel)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Strong leadership and team management skills, advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations
Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
