The Model Makers participate in the development of seating product models, mock-ups, and prototypes. The successful candidate for this Model Maker position will be working with the Model Shops small, highly efficient team to create these full-size design properties that are used to fill a wide variety of requirements, from initial design concept evaluation through to finished design models which are presented at trade shows and customer reviews. Being a small team, each and every one of the Model Makers contributions are important and critical to the success of the group; as the successful candidate, your participation will not only be in the physical build of the properties but also the decisions made concerning the actual design and development of the properties. You will have the opportunity to combine the use of CAD systems, 3D printers, CNC machines, and traditional hand skills to create finely finished, fully functioning items. Often you will be invited to participate in the actual presentation of the items to the Model Shops customers, sometimes requiring foreign travel.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate, high quality prototypes, models and mockups for part evaluation as well as internal and external presentations, using a variety of shop tools.
- Work collaboratively with other model makers as well as designers, engineers, and outside resources to solve complex problems.
- Demonstrate and assure knowledge of model shop safety procedures for shop and individual tool use.
- Exercise PC-based computer knowledge as it applies to model making (Outlook, MS Office, CAD/CAM systems)
- Aid in the troubleshooting and modification of elements to resolve any design issues.
- Support the companys vision of creating the highest quality and most innovative new proprietary products.
- Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies and materials.
- Participate in the maintenance of the shop area and equipment to keep the area clean, orderly and safe.
Basic Qualifications:
- AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- OR in the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
- OR A Bachelors degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience
- OR an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience. Certification may be required for technical support roles.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Collins Aerospace will not offer sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Wood and medium high density urethane board cutting, shaping, routing, and bonding.
- Metal cutting, forming, drilling, welding, riveting, heat treating, and bonding.
- Reactive resin casting
- Thermoplastic (Vacuum) forming
- Fiberglass laminating
- MSDS and hazardous waste management
- CAD modeling
- CNC Machine programming and operation
- Proven skills in the creation of high quality models and design evaluators for new product development (portfolio presentation is encouraged)
- Expert in surface and detail part finishing and painting
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 lbs
