Description:

We are seeking a Research Scientist to play a critical role in multiple projects involving poliovirus as part of Tulane's development as a Poliovirus Essential Facility (PEF). The Research Scientist will assist in designing and executing experiments, manage the training and utilization of staff and students, and coordinate experiments and allocate research resources in both BSL-2 and BSL-3 research environments. The Research Scientist will conduct experiments involving both in vitro and humanized murine models of poliovirus infection, analyze data and prepare data for publication, and overall conduct scientifically rigorous research to advance knowledge dedicated to the eradication of poliovirus. Importantly, since this position will involve work funded by external investigators but conducted as part of the Tulane PEF, there may be limitations to whether the hired individual can continue to pursue particular research questions should they pursue an independent academic research career. The rank of research scientist is a staff appointment.
Technical skills and competencies to conduct molecular biology research, viral vector design, DNA sequence analysis, tissue culture and bacteriology experience.
Ability to interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds at all levels internal and external to the organization.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
Ability to prioritize work, performing assignments independently.
Doctorate Degree in a Biological Science
5 years of research experience in a relevant field or area of study
More than 4 years' professional research work experience.
Authorship in high impact publications.
Experience working with murine models of infectious disease.
Virology-specific experience to include cultivation and quantification.
