Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics, in the School of Medicine at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a qualified candidate for an open rank, twelve-month faculty position within the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes. The position incorporates both outpatient and inpatient clinical care, teaching, and participating in scholarly activities such as program building, quality improvement initiatives, and/ or research. The successful candidate will be involved in graduate medical education activities through clinical education.
The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes division is located within the UAB Department of Pediatrics at Children's of Alabama. As the only freestanding Children's Hospital in Alabama, we provide clinical services for most of children and adolescents with endocrinology and diabetes in the state. The division has 13 pediatric endocrinologists, 7 nurse practitioners, 10 diabetes educators, an established insulin pump program, 2 social workers, and a behavioral counselor to support ongoing care of children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. It also has several multi/inter-disciplinary and sub-specialty clinics including metabolic bone, lipid, newborn screening, high-risk diabetes, Turner syndrome, thyroid disease, cystic fibrosis, Duchene muscular dystrophy, and transgender clinics. The Pediatrics Endocrinology and diabetes clinics had 17,500 outpatient visits (6500 outpatient visits for diabetes) in 2021.
Children's Hospital is the premier health care institution for the children of Alabama and neighboring states. Faculty in the Children's Hospital clinics supervise the care provided by fellows, residents, and medical students in a variety of clinics ranging from primary care to specialty services through the UAB. Children's Hospital has 332 beds with a large catchment area and outstanding opportunities for academic advancement.

Physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities, must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
