General Statement of Duties

The Equity, Diversity, and Opportunity (EDO) Education Specialist will lead efforts to address systemic equity challenges and to communicate culturally relevant instructional best practices. The position's primary responsibility is to foster an environment of fairness, community, diversity, and inclusion. Assist students and faculty in addressing challenges and opportunities related to equality that affect student learning. Employees will benefit from the specialist's assistance in obtaining a complete understanding of subjects such as equity, belonging, and cultural responsiveness. The specialist develops, executes, and monitors diversity and equity-centered initiatives and practices within schools. Creates, coordinates, and/or facilitates diversity and equity workshops, presentations, learning opportunities, and efforts.

Essential Duties
Collaborate as a thought partner within the Department of Equity, Diversity, and Opportunity (EDO), taking leadership on district-level priorities and the implementation of initiatives aligned with the HCPS strategic plan.
Consult with school-based and district leadership staff to design and implement appropriate training products that support data-driven equity work to suit the needs of students and staff.
Provide meaningful and dynamic professional learning and ongoing coaching and support to leadership and staff on using equity, diversity(inclusion), and opportunity lens in alignment with the Culturally Responsive Education Model (CREM), the Henrico Learner Profile (HLP), and the Deeper Learning Model. This includes but is not limited to: microcredential course design and cohort facilitation, as well as asynchronous and synchronous virtual and in-person learning product design.
Garner and utilize meaningful qualitative and quantitative feedback data to inform best practices for professional learning products.
Assist in improving community-wide engagement with diverse populations. Establish and maintain working relationships with community organizations to promote the Division's equity and student achievement initiatives. This includes planning and executing school and community events related to the celebration of diversity and inclusivity.
Support fellow EDO staff with facilitation of Educator Resource Groups (ERGs).
Collaborate with schools and district departments to support student-centered opportunities, which includes but is not limited to clubs/organizations, field trips, and mentoring.
Support funding for equity, diversity, and inclusion opportunities to include oversight and budgeting (i.e., grants, federal funds).
Collaborate with the Department of Teaching, Learning and Innovation and Professional Learning and Leadership to support professional learning opportunities in alignment with strategic goals.
Collaborate with the Department of Family and Community Engagement and outside entities as determined to provide workshops and resources as appropriate.
Actively promote the work of the Office of Equity Diversity Opportunity through internal and external modes of communication.
Maintain confidentiality regarding privileged administrative and student information professionally.
Attend work daily with active engagement in job responsibilities.
Attend/present at local, regional, and national conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in education, social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field required. Minimum of three to five years of experience in a preK-12 school setting. Valid license with Administration and Supervision endorsement required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience working in a school instructional leadership capacity preferred; experience writing curriculum for diverse learners; experience designing and delivering high quality culturally responsive instruction and/or professional learning to diverse audiences preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Demonstrated desire and experience working with ethnically diverse populations; Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills to suit various audiences, specifically students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders; Strong knowledge of lesson design strategies and culturally responsive instructional practices in alignment with strategic plan, Henrico Learner Profile, Deeper Learning Model, and Virginia Standards of Learning; Experience working with learners with different abilities and/or across different grade levels, including adult learners; Experience designing and facilitating professional learning products for large audiences; Ability to engage in conversations on sensitive and/or controversial topics with a solutions-oriented perspective; Knowledge of public education institutional and school-based processes, school and community equity issues, data desegregation; Intermediate to advanced computer skills and experience with various software programs, including online asynchronous learning platforms; Strong organizational/time management skills; Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; A thorough attention to detail; Demonstrated flexibility regarding job duties and assignments; Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team to organize tasks, problem-solve, and make decisions while handling multiple priorities; Excellent organizational and executive functioning skills.
