General Definition:
The Network Systems Administrator position ensures the stable operation of the physical network, routing, firewall, IP address management, and servers with respect to services and performance while working closely with other IT staff to maintain uptime and service levels. This position also supports additional lT systems, including all cloud services, LAN, WAN, RWAN, Wi-Fi, switching, servers, workstations, VoIP telephone, and other related systems. This position requires maintaining confidentiality of proprietary and private information and a customer-service focus while carrying out job responsibilities and will conduct business in a manner that will uphold the integrity and reputation of the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit.

Description of Duties:
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, revewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off-site as neccesary.
- Maintain computer networks and systems, including software, servers, VPNs, routers, firewalls, and other physical hardware.
- Installing and configuring network equipment to update/fix hardware and software issues.
- Maintain security of computerized information and data; perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
- Provide support from various constituencies; investigate and troubleshoot issues as requested.
- Provide troubleshooting and repair for network issues that arise and work with others as appropriate to achieve effective and efficient solutions.
- Repair and recover from hardware or software failures; coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
- Develop, document, and standardize preventative maintenance routines to ensure system availability and performance standards on production systems.
- Add users to active directory, provision mailboxes, and maintain mailbox databases.
- Perform highly confidential digital audits on personnel as requested by approved administrators.
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Cloud mail applications (O365) and all other cloud applications.
- Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot wireless networks.
- Manage and maintain virtual environments.
- Set up user accounts, permissions, and passwords.
- Support and administer third-party applications.
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities; configure/add new services as necessary.
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports the WIU infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
- Manage DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, and other security appliances.
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
- Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required; configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
- Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts.
- Experience in Microsoft Azure administration.
- Experience with Virtualized computing.
- Experience in CISCO technologies.
- Proven network engineering, network operations, and network performance analysis skills.
- Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of computing infrastructures.
- Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical issues.
- Ability to think critically to be proactive instead of reactive.
