Job Summary

The Simulation Center Manager is a key member of the Simulation Center Leadership Team who works collaboratively with the Director of Network Simulation to oversee all operations of the mobile in-situ simulation program, Korman and Karabots Simulation Labs, EMCP Cadaver Lab and additional clinical affiliate sites (Sleep Labs, Blue Bell Endoscopy Center etc.) throughout the Central and North regions. The Simulation Center Manager must possess a working knowledge of evidence-based best practice principles of simulation practice. Expert level debriefing skills to provide evaluation and critique of interprofessional healthcare team members (physicians, nurses, ancillary staff) performance and adherence to American Heart Association (AHA) and evidence-based cognitive aid protocols during patient safety/quality improvement Crisis Resource Management simulation initiatives is also required. Additionally, they are responsible for administrative oversight of all simulation learners (physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and allied health providers) to ensure that all simulation activities are prepared, executed, and facilitated to maintain institutional compliance and accreditation standards. Development and management of the annual budget in collaboration with the Director of Network Simulation is required. Additional responsibilities include the professional development, training, and evaluation of 12 direct reports. Serve as Simulation Center representative on the Resuscitation Committee. Will also be required to work collaboratively with healthcare leaders to promote patient safety through simulation educational initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Collaborate with Graduate Medical Education, Nursing Education Professional Development (NEPD) Program Directors, Directors of Clinical Support Services in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all clinical and in-situ simulation experiences, while assuring adherence to all accreditation standards.
  • Serve as primary 'debriefer' and 'subject matter expert' to incorporate the (INACSL) Healthcare Standards of Best Practice and Best Practices of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH), and evaluate interprofessional team (physicians, nurses, ancillary staff) performance for all scheduled patient safety/quality improvement Crisis Resource Management scenarios to assure adherence to prescribed AHA/cognitive aid protocols and standards.
  • Includes supervision and accountability for transport and set up of all high-fidelity equipment at each location and coordination with facility leadership to ensure staff readiness for all in-situ simulation events.
    • Serve as Training Center Coordinator for the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) course and The American Academy of Family Practice, Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) to develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate effectiveness of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) courses offered for internal resident/fellow learners, while assuring adherence to all ACS accreditation requirements.
    • Provide written patient safety/quality improvement reports of simulation data to physician/nursing leadership and Risk Management identifying patient safety vulnerabilities associated with requested simulation scenarios (Acute Stroke, PA Department of Health etc.).
    • Provide simulation services and resource support to internal hospital departments as required. Serve as liaison officer to the Protective Services Department for:
  • Onboarding education of officers
  • Annual competency training for officers
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate newly created 'Safe Patient Removal/Relocation Response' annual training
    • Collaboratively develop and manage (610-A15901) Simulation Center Annual Budget.
  • Identify, prioritize, and prepare all capital budget items required for annual budget review.
  • Execute the monthly variance reports required by Finance.
  • Responsible for maintaining budget neutrality for the fiscal year.
  • Develop financial reports as requested by Director of Network Simulation.
  • Process check/money order deposits from over 100 Training Center external instructor/vendors to Health Pay 24 CPR Center account.
    • Responsible for assuring all received funds are properly deposited through Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital Accounts Receivable Department.
    • Prepare monthly Health Pay 24 income report for Director of Network Simulation review.
    • Develop ongoing inventory control procedures to monitor supply levels, allocate costs and ensure on-time supply delivery for all simulation related activities.
    • Oversee the preparation, maintenance, inventory, and operation of all simulation equipment/supplies and collaborate the scheduling, design, supervision, and implementation of all requested simulation activities.
    • Develop preventive maintenance programs with vendors to assure that all high-fidelity simulators, audiovisual/debriefing systems, surgical simulators, computers, and other electronic simulation equipment remain in proper working order.

    Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):

    Expert level of knowledge and application of the INACSL, American Heart Association, American Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Surgeons and Society for Simulation in Healthcare Standards and Accreditation requirements. Must incorporate evidence based SSIH and INACSL best practices in the design, implementation and evaluation of all interprofessional simulation scenarios requested from physician, nursing and allied healthcare leadership. They must possess the requisite medical/nursing knowledge to serve as an effective 'content expert debriefer' for all requested crisis resource management patient safety/QI initiatives in a psychologically safe environment for all interprofessional Jefferson/Einstein simulation participants. Strong interpersonal/leadership skills are required to identify and report patient safety vulnerability issues related to high acuity, low occurrence (HALO) simulated events and provide effective recommendations for improvement to facility leadership. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. High level of competency with computers, audiovisual equipment, simulation debriefing learning management platforms (Gaumard, Laerdal, EMS), and high-fidelity simulation software systems. Strong problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability to teach/mentor others and effectively network with other Simulation Center managers and directors at the local/state/national level to develop and utilize best simulation practices throughout the organization. Discretion and good judgment are required to assure that all debriefing sessions are provided in a 'psychologically safe' environment for all learners. Must be able to work off-shift hours and weekends as needed. Ability to lift 50-pound high fidelity simulation equipment during transport of in-situ simulation resources. Registered Nurse (RN) requisite knowledge and skills required as preliminary requirement to serve in the role of 'content expert/expert debriefer' for all required patient safety initiatives and quality improvement simulation scenarios. Proficient in hospital finance portals: Ascent, MyTime, budgeting and other systems as needed.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    Education:
    • Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or other Health Related Field
    • Completion of Registered Nursing Program
    • PA R.N. Licensure

    AND

    Experience:
    • Prefer 3 years in healthcare simulation

    Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:
    • CHSE, Certified Health Simulation Educator (SSIH), required.
    • PA RN License
    • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, PALS Certified Instructor 'Stop the Bleed Instructor'
    • FEMA Hospital Emergency Response Taskforce Certification
    • FEMA HERT Instructor
