Position Summary

As a member of BHI's senior executive team reporting to the CEO, the Chief Analytics Officer (CAO) will provide executive oversight and leadership across BHI's analytics and data science functions. The Chief Analytics Officer will provide strategic leadership in driving improved healthcare outcomes and customer value using advanced analytics to develop and execute strategies to both measure and expand customer value. This role will oversee the analytic initiatives that power and differentiate BHI's product offerings. The CAO will also set strategic priorities to identify new business opportunities based on BHI's customer relationships, data assets, market, and industry trends.

This leader will translate data into specific strategies to increase value for BHI customers, including areas such as value-based care, provider network optimization, reimbursement and transparency strategies, health equity, and pharmacy management strategies.

This role will also work closely with Analytics and Data Science executives throughout the BCBS System to accelerate analytics and data science capabilities across national and local Plan initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead BHI's Analytics, Data Science and Methodology teams to develop end-to-end analytic capabilities, including opportunity identification, sizing, analytic solution design, piloting, prototyping, and scaling solutions across BHI's Product portfolio.
  • Manage, develop, and grow a team of 30+ analytics and data science professionals. Continue to expand the skill base and expertise to develop an industry-leading healthcare analytics capability to support the BCBS System.
  • Partner closely with Product Strategy, Data Strategy, Analytic Data Operations to develop scalable solutions that can be leveraged across BHI's customers.
  • Provide thought leadership and innovation to help drive BHI's Insights Agenda, including publication of industry-leading analyses to support national and local BCBS strategies.
  • Collaborates with data engineering teams in creating applications and advanced models through the utilization of structured and unstructured data, designs optimal data architecture, and integrated new AI/ML capabilities across analytic teams, including Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Provides guidance to internal and external stakeholders on various data methodologies and creates new and innovative approaches to presenting data and data insights.
  • Translate analyses into actionable insights that drive value and outputs to succinctly deliver conclusions and key takeaways to clients via visualizations, tools.
  • Maintain controls, reporting and transparency necessary to comply with customer and BCBSA confidentiality, HIPAA, PHI and PII standards, as well as SOC2 and HiTrust certifications.

Requirements:
  • PhD in quantitative discipline leveraging complex data structures (e.g.., Computer Science, Analytics, MBA, Public Health, Statistics) (Master's degree with equivalent experience considered) and 10 + years' experience building and leading analytics functions across an organization.
  • 10 + years of experience in a senior-level data management role.
  • Demonstrated strategic business leadership, identifying, quantifying, and pursuing new opportunities.
  • Deep understanding of health care data and healthcare processes
  • Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to relay complex data- related issues in a simple and easy to understand manner.
  • Demonstrate expertise in cloud technology infrastructure and environments coupled with business process architecture.
  • Highly knowledgeable in cloud-based data and analytic technology, including coding languages (e.g., Python, Spark), data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, GitHub), MLOPs, as well as business intelligence tools.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in partnering with and negotiating priorities across a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated expertise at translating business decision and information needs into data and technical specifications.
  • Proven ability to influence key stakeholders as well as drive meaningful change and innovation.
  • Confirmed experience recruiting and growing/ developing Analytic and Data Science talent across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills: capable of influencing and driving collaboration at all levels within the organization.

Compensation:

As a key executive in our organization, the Chief Analytics Officer will receive a competitive compensation package including competitive base salary, annual bonus, long term incentive plan, and comprehensive benefits package.

Location:

Chicago or Boston strongly preferred; 30-40% travel to Chicago and Boston required.
