Systems Engineer

Summary/objective:

KMS Solutions is seeking a highly motivated individual to join a team that provides engineering and technical support to the Ranges, Engineering, and Analysis Department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI. This multi-disciplinary team is responsible for providing systems safety, environmental qualification testing, and range sustainment in support of undersea warfare systems. Candidates with strong technical writing experience and project scheduling support are highly desired.

Essential functions:

  • Research and analyze system designs, specifications, manuals, and other data to determine Undersea Warfare (USW) Systems readiness for deployment.
  • Assist in overseeing all necessary project milestones, test events, and platform builds for Navy range systems and programs.
  • Develop technical reports, procedures, white papers, or other formal documentation by drawing from resources such as meeting minutes, requirements documents, drawings, and support from subject matter experts.
  • Write or revise technical material to standardize for technical reports, manuals, briefs, and other documentation.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to maximize clarity and ensure documents conform to existing guidelines and standards.
  • Edit existing technical and programmatic documentation to conform to relevant guidelines and standards and to maximize clarity.
  • Maintain stylistic, notational, and organizational standards to ensure consistent documentation.
  • Support overall planning and scheduling of multiple technical projects using Microsoft Project and other similar programs.
  • Maintain the integrated master schedule, track resources, and ensure all milestones and deliverables remain on track.
  • Maintain communications between managers, lead engineers, and working engineers to ensure schedules and actions are updated and on track.


Required education and experience:
  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field
  • Experience developing system engineering and programmatic documentation
  • Experience managing and tracking complex program millstones and schedules with Microsoft Project


Preferred education and experience:
  • Secret DoD clearance
  • Experience specifically with undersea warfare systems and/or providing support at NUWC Division Newport
  • Five (5) years of engineering experience
  • Five (5) years of technical writing experience
  • Five (5) years of experience using Microsoft Project


Competencies:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of the customer and company leadership.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements:
  • Ability to obtain a Secret DoD clearance

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The typical workday is eight hours in length. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, with concurrence from the supervisor. The employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and must account for the hours in a pay period to maintain full-time status.

Telework:

This is a hybrid position. Telework Allowed up to 40% after the first six months.

Travel:

Up to 10% CONUS may be required.
