SUMMARY

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) oversees all operations of Akhiok-Kaguyak, Inc. (AKI) and its subsidiaries, manages the implementation of corporation and subsidiary policies and procedures consistent with Board directives, and develops and implements programs and other initiatives as directed by the Board of Directors to advance AKI's mission and benefit and support AKI shareholders and the AKI community. The CEO is responsible for the profitability of the entire corporation. The CEO is also responsible for subsidiary business development and developing and maintaining relationships between AKI and its shareholders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities
  • Takes direction from and regularly confers with the Board of Directors to oversee the implementation and management of AKI Board, business, and shareholder objectives.
  • Oversees and manages corporation officers and other employees to ensure compliance with SBA 8(a) program requirements and the consistent and profitable implementation of AKI Board directives and AKI business objectives.
  • Develops organizational policies, coordinates functions and operations between corporation and subsidiary divisions and departments, and assigns responsibilities for achieving strategic objectives.
  • Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress towards objectives, and revises objectives in accordance with current organizational conditions and Board directives.
  • Directs and coordinates formulation of financial programs to fund operations, maximize investment returns, and increase productivity.
  • Develops and implements industrial and public relations policies designed to emphasize the company's market presence and improve relationships with contracting customers and shareholders.
  • Evaluates executive and employee performance for compliance with organizational policies and achievement of operations goals.
  • Intimate knowledge of and experience with SBA 8(a) government contracting rules, regulations, and processes.
  • Oversee the maintenance of corporate databases, analysis of corporate data, development and implementation of processes that resolve operational and programmatic weaknesses.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • A Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Administration, Organizational Development, or an educational field that prepares candidate to lead at an executive level.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience as a corporate officer with professional management level work experience.
  • Minimum ten (10) years' employment as executive officer in Board-led entity, preferably within an Alaska Native Corporation.
  • Experience implementing corporation policies and procedures consistent with requirements imposed by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act.
  • Senior management level experience with strategic leadership and planning, business development and marketing, operational oversite, and team building.
  • Proven success in implementing and overseeing profitable government contracting programs.
  • Demonstrated competency in strategic planning and business development.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operations metrics.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive, confidential information.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent writing, communication, listening, and interpersonal skills, including ability to work closely with board members, executives, managers, co-workers, and outside contacts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review, evaluate, and synthesize information
  • Proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom).
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in preparing information.
  • Superior organizational and information management skills, as well as time management.
  • Maintains confidentiality, integrity, and tact in dealing with sensitive information.
  • Understands importance of transparency and communicating with the Board about strategic management decisions and outcomes.
  • Proficiency with office computer equipment and software, office administration, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and related state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrates sound problem-solving skills and the initiative to develop and improve corporation process and procedures.
  • Knowledge of AKI and its subsidiaries, non-profits and shareholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure, independently with minimal supervision in a discreet and confidential manner.
  • Ability to plan and organize business development and shareholder-facing corporate functions.
  • Ability to oversee the drafting and publication of corporation financial reports and shareholder newsletters.
  • Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity, respect, flexibility, and sound work ethics.

Understands and has experience implementing financial and management best practices in the context of compliance with SBA 8(a) government contracting rules and regulations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the outdoor field duties of this job, the employee will also be exposed to outside weather conditions and other conditions such as loud noises, fumes, odors, dust, etc. This position may require travel.
