GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary:
The Wound and Ostomy RN is responsible for the development, coordination and monitoring of the hospital's inpatient wound/ostomy/skin program. The Wound and Ostomy RN is a registered nurse who provides expertise and consultative services for adult inpatients who have pressure injuries, ostomies, problematic fistulas, urinary or fecal incontinence as well as venous, arterial, or neuropathic ulcers. In this role the Wound and Ostomy RN collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and recommend interventions to improve the patient's skin/ostomy/wound. The Wound and Ostomy RN establishes the standards of care related to wounds and ostomies, clinical competencies to meet patient needs, and staff training to ensure clinical expertise. The Wound and Ostomy RN is also responsible for monitoring performance improvement data and applying principles for high reliability to performance improvement initiatives to meet organizational goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Provides consultation, including assessment, education, and recommendations for patients with skin/ostomy/wound care needs.
2. Coaching. Leading, implementing and monitoring pressure injury prevention strategies. Leads interprofessional teams in prevention initiatives.
3. Leads and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care team to improve skin/ostomy/wound care for patient.
4. Establishes and updates skin/ostomy/wound care standards of care to ensure they are evidence-based
5. Serves as an educator and subject matter expert to patients, caregivers, and staff on wound, ostomy, and continence care.
6. Ensures performance improvement data is collected, analyzed, and action plans created, implemented, and evaluated.
7. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years as an RN. One year experience of wound, skin, ostomy care.
Preferred: Five years or greater experience with wound, skin, ostomy care

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
- Education Bachelor Degree
Nursing
Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program/university - Credential Ostomy Management Specialist
Registered Nurse
Basic Life Support
Current certification in wound care and/or ostomy care or must obtain certification within 6 months of hire
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years as an RN. One year experience of wound, skin, ostomy care.
Preferred: Five years or greater experience with wound, skin, ostomy care
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
- Education Master Degree
