JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's general accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and tax compliance to ensure the financial health and integrity of the organization. This role will work to drive continuous improvement in the department as well as ensuring that accounting is providing value and support to the organization. The Director of Accounting will also play a crucial role in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures for the company.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee and manage the daily operations of the general accounting department, including account receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and general accounting.
Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
Oversee the period-end and year-end closing processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness while providing feedback on the organization's financial health and variances to budget.
Coordinate with senior management to support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Provide mentorship and professional development to the accounting team.
Provide support to the annual external audit and conduct regular internal audits
. Identify gaps in current accounting processes and policies and drive improvements and changes to eliminate them.
Seek out opportunities for accounting to better support the business.
Make financial data actionable and meaningful for senior management and the organization.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Management of two to three staff accountants and AP / AR supervisors.
Professional development of the accounting team.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
CPA certification preferred.
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in accounting or finance with 3 years in a managerial role.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with integrated ERP Accounting Systems preferred.
Experience with financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
