The Opportunity:

The Commissioning Engineer is part of Great Lakes' New Build team reporting to the Director - New Builds. This role will be 100% dedicated to this new build project. The candidate's work location will be a combination of work from home, our Houston office and from our project office in Louisiana. Much of the time will be spent at our project office in Louisiana.

Great Lakes is in the process of constructing a 6500 yd hopper dredge for the US market as part of a fleet modernization program. The hopper dredge is under construction at Conrad Shipyard in Amelia, Louisiana. Great Lakes is searching for a Commissioning Engineer to support this and other new build projects. This role can be filled as a fulltime salary position or a contract-based position.

For a successful execution of this new build project the candidate will interface and work closely with the Company's New Build team, Fleet Engineering teams, and Hopper Maintenance Department. The position offers challenge, variety, and the opportunity to be involved in the construction of an advanced hopper dredge.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities encompass everything from new build documentation review, onsite supervision, and commissioning. The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Must have strong skills in reading engineering drawings and specifications to understand the purpose and functionality of different vessel systems.
  • Must be an on-site leader and independent worker and have strong interpersonal skills to develop working relationships and expectations with project stake holders and testing crews.
  • Perform mechanical completion reviews of vessel systems onsite for adherence to both drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and resolve design errors.
  • Ensure systems have been fully inspected for mechanical completion, have been properly cleaned/flushed and are ready for commissioning.
  • Develop, conduct, implement, manage, and witness commissioning and startup testing procedures for all vessel systems.
  • Act as Great Lakes representative for factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), Harbor Acceptance Tests (HAT), Sea trials and dredging trials.
  • Review change requests from the shipyard and provide comments.


Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in systems commissioning.
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or other related field (extensive experience and demonstrated commissioning related skills may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drawing and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of both ABS and USCG Rules and Regulations.
  • Ability to take the initiative, work independently, make decisions, and develop recommendations.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
