Your Future Job

The R&D Sr. Scientist II, Advanced Research & Technology (ART) is a subject matter expert focused on developing breakthrough product insights and processes, conducting analytical & scale up testing, and commercializing new solutions. The role combines scientific knowledge, hands-on research, and project leadership to deliver multiple research projects and technical solutions. The R&D Sr. Scientist II, ART may be required to supervise and support other team members in delivering other research & development (R&D) projects and tasks.

What You Will Do
  • Leads the project management and execution of various research, applied research and cross-functional projects, to deliver against technical targets and project scopes.
  • Leads initiatives to improve department technical work and analysis, including consistency and quality of data generating, collection, and analysis, as well as technical capabilities and protocols. Develops summary reports of the results to share with key stakeholders.
  • Supports the development of the long-term technology pipeline by researching new technologies, product concepts, and industry trends, integrating into projects, processes, and products to meet strategic business goals.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional departments and external stakeholders to advance R&D initiatives, meet technical product requirements to complete project initiatives.
  • Leads development of new and modifies existing formulations and processes in benchtop, pilot plant, and production to achieve technical targets for innovation and renovation projects.
  • Designs, conducts, and analyzes scientific experiments to test ingredients, formulations, and processes, and develop prototypes and products.
  • Coaches interns and co-op students and share technical learnings to team members.

Your Background
  • Master's degree of Science or Engineering in Food Science, Process Engineering and eight (8) years of related experience in food processing or product development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience in food research is desirable.
  • Experience working with Canadian and U.S.A. food standards and regulations.

  • Knowledge of research and development within product development processes, ingredient functionality and applications, and food processing and manufacturing.
  • Hands-on technical lab skills in areas of food analysis, processing, structuring, chemistry, or microbiology
  • Knowledge with laboratory techniques; includes suggestions for new methods of analysis and developing and validating new protocols.
  • Excellent data analysis, visualization, and interpretation skills to make recommendations.
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills to manage competing priorities and timelines and potential project risks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with cross-functional team, existing and new suppliers, vendors, and research agencies.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint etc.)

Compensation, Benefits & Perks

Daiya's compensation offerings are based on a pay-for-performance philosophy. The pay range for this position is from $90,000 - 110,000annually; the base pay offered is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. Permanent team members may be eligible for our competitive annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
