Position Highlights:

The Supervisor of Research Grants Financial Management independently manages all phases of research award administration. The research fund portfolio management includes budget forecasting, monitoring utilization to ensure fiscal compliance, resolving accounting issues, and providing direct financial advisory services. This individual acts as a liaison between the Principal Investigator, our central Sponsored Award offices (Office of Sponsored Research and Research Finance), and various other Moffitt departments to appropriately manage an award through its various life cycles. As a supervisor, this individual will provide direct supervision and training of junior and intermediate Research Financial Analysts in all areas to ensure accuracy and consistency across the department.

The Ideal Candidate:
  • Be highly driven, with excellent analytical, verbal/written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Have experience in previous sponsored project administration roles.
  • Have experience as project or team lead.
  • Have advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Be able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Have previous accounting and financial analysis experience.


Responsibilities:
  • Manage Principal Investigator (PI) Research Fund Portfolios beginning with grant submission budget preparation to grant close-out.
  • Provides direct supervision of junior staff, including monitoring workload allocation, providing ongoing training & skill development, and assisting with problem resolution. Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Performs financial analysis on complex PI portfolio of accounts and provides guidance on strategic planning to maximize budget utilization in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Develops forward-thinking forecasts based on historical spending trends, future planned spending, and overall funding portfolio.
  • Partners with Purchasing, Accounts Payable, and other departments to ensure incurred expenses are liquidated timely for appropriate closeout of all expired projects.
  • Stays current with all new and existing regulatory requirements and institutional policies/procedures, and keeps PIs and department leadership informed of changes.
  • Manages regulatory compliance with items related to Comparative Medicine, Institutional Review Board (IRB), etc, as it pertains to the funding mechanism.
  • Act as a liaison between the Principal Investigator, our central Sponsored Award offices (Office of Sponsored Research and Research Finance), and various other Moffitt departments to appropriately manage an award through its various life cycles.
  • Accountable for developing standards and process improvement opportunities with Managers, Directors, and various Moffitt departments.
  • Accountable in assisting Manager with departmental forecasting and budgeting.


Credentials and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field of study required
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial (i.e. forecasting, budgeting, analysis, etc.), extramural funding management (i.e. NIH, State of Florida, etc.) and mentoring/leadership experience leading assignments with a comprehensive understanding of related compliance requirements (i.e. OMB-Circular, funding policies, NOAs, etc.) and a macro-level comprehension of operational finances
  • Required excellent analytical skills, verbal & written communication skills, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Strong ability to interpret policy to others and apply instructions given for assigned activities
