Under the general supervision of the building administration, the clinical mental health provider works in concert with school faculty, staff and related service personnel to address personal, emotional, familial, or social issues to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally.
The successful candidate will possess:
- Experience with students in special education programs
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with school, students, parents and community based agencies
- Professional clinical experience with children and their families
- Commitment to working with parents and students as partners in education
- Belief that all students can learn and become socially responsible
- Respect for all children and their families
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' behavior management plans
- Conducts individual and group counseling as recommended in a student's IEP or 504 plan
- Develops goals and objectives for students with IEP counseling services
- Coordinates with administrators and staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services
- Serves as a ready resource to students and families to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased school success, personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; serves as a liaison between home and school
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping
- Engages family in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents and the school
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by administration
- Must possess or be eligible for CT certification (071)
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is required
- Master's Degree in Social Work is preferred
- Two or more years of experience in school setting preferred
- Starting at $75,000

- This position requires 180 student days, 7 professional development days and 20 extended year school days
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
- Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height, by bending or leaning, in order to communicate effectively with each child
