QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold or be eligible for State of Delaware Certification in a Content Area
- Master's Degree, preferred
- Three or more years successful AVID teaching experience preferred
- Experience developing and delivering various professional development i.e. seminars,
- interactive work sessions, small group and one on one coaching
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, school administrators and central office staff
- Knowledge of AVID best practices in teaching and learning
- Knowledge of AVID strategies to increase student engagement
- Knowledge of AVID instructional differentiation strategies
- Demonstrated leadership abilities

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively participate in the creation and implementation of district-wide goals, department goals, and content area goals
- Assists administration in improvement of instruction through analysis of assessment data
- Attend all year-round meetings as scheduled by supervisor
- Participate in select building level meetings
- Disseminate area/content/department information to peers through meetings, emails, texts, etc. and ensure continuous communication flow
- Greet, assist, and provide support to new (or new to content area) educators & support staff
- Lead department/grade level discussions regarding students and assist in the creation of opportunities to improve or accelerate student achievement
- Manage the department budget; responsible for order forms, distribution of supplies and materials, and inventory supplies and materials for their department/grade level
- Meet with administration to discuss district climate, school/district policies and other various content/area related issues
- Monthly (or more frequently as required) communicate area/department needs and concerns to administration
- Participate and lead summer planning sessions
- Plan and deliver professional learning opportunities as directed by administration
- Plan and/or assist in community outreach
- Manage online area/department presence (website, social media, etc.)
- Responsible for informing, monitoring, and/or completing the field trip planning and implementation for district-wide opportunities
- Schedule, plan/publish agenda, lead or facilitate, and provide minutes for department/PLC meetings
- Serve as a liaison between the district administration and the schools
- Summarize and report area/department events and information at building level meetings
- Support student success through the discussion of truancy, academic failure, climate, etc. for students and provide recommendations
- Additional responsibilities at the discretion of supervisor and district administration
CONTENT-SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides direction and leadership in the development of a comprehensive social studies curriculum for all 6-12 schools including: scope and sequence documents, pacing guides, units of study, and balanced assessments.
- Instructional Leadership: Provide guidance and support to elementary and secondary social studies teachers in instructional strategies, lesson planning, assessment methods, and differentiation techniques to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Professional Development: Coordinate and facilitate professional development opportunities for social studies faculty to enhance their content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and use of instructional technology.
- Resource Management: Manage the allocation of resources, including textbooks, instructional materials, and equipment (EX: globes, etc), to support effective teaching and learning in the social studies department.
- Family and Community Engagement: Communicate regularly with families and the community about the social studies curriculum, and opportunities for involvement in social studies-related activities, events, and initiatives.
- Coordinate ONE District family information night per school year
- Community Connection and Pride: Manage the "social studies" curriculum page of the CSD website and provide regular updates to District newsletters and communication.
- Curriculum Alignment: Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of the social studies curriculum within the department and across grade levels, disciplines, and educational programs.
- Cultural Responsiveness: Promote cultural responsiveness and equity in social students education by incorporating diverse perspectives, experiences, and resources into the curriculum and instructional practices.
- Coordinates the selection of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and textbooks to support the implementation of the social studies standards
- Supports, where applicable, the implementation of signature programs (AVID, CTE, and Dual Enrollment).
- Supports integration of social emotional learning (SEL) within the social studies curriculum
- Supports integration of House Bills into the social studies curriculum (EX: HB 300 or HB 198)
- Review and evaluate results of state and district assessments, and recommend appropriate modifications to CSD social studies programs.
- Innovation and Integration: Explore innovative approaches to social studies education, such as project-based learning, inquiry-based instruction, STEM initiatives, and cross-curricular integration, to enhance student engagement and achievement.
- Lead/ Coordinate annual Mikva Challenge
- Lead/ Coordinate other social studies aligned work such as National History Day
- Attend designated CSD Board Meetings to share information
- Lead/ Coordinate Junior Achievement partnership for K-5
