Job Description

Job Summary: Under the general supervision of the Principal(s), provide students (K-5 and 9-12) comprehensive school counseling plan.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • NYS Certification as a School Counselor
  • Successful prior experience as a counselor preferred.
  • Must be able to travel to multiple schools to provide services.
  • Valid Drivers License.

Primary Activities
Grades K-5 Duties:
  • Work in partnership with teachers and pupil services personnel to implement and review school counseling plans at the three elementary schools.
  • Plan and implement instruction at the K-5 level with a focus on the whole child to include early college and career information, academic success, and social emotional development.
  • Provide both direct and indirect student services.
Grades 9-12 Duties
  • Provide direct and indirect services to students who are new to Yorktown Central School District and Yorktown High School to facilitate the transition and connectedness.
  • Continually monitor student progress and make adjustments to support as needed.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators and clinical team as needed.
General
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of pre/post high school program eligibility requirements.
  • Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs and other educational opportunities.
  • Knowledge of current developments in business and industry regarding career opportunities and employment.
  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
  • is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
  • Regular drive between school buildings.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors

Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school environment.
  • The manager continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people.
  • Work generally performed indoors.
Salary Range
$61,804 - $132,929
