Description:
Assists the Medical Director in managing and coordinating the services, programs and activities of the clinical laboratory.

- Assumes primary responsibility for laboratory department operations within KRMC.
- Responsible for the selection, orientation, supervision, counseling and evaluation of assigned staff; implements cross-training of duties as needed; coordinates training for all non-technical staff members.
- Recruits and manages staff to demonstrate behaviors consistent with KRMC beliefs and KRMC Core Values; acts as chief retention officer for area of responsibility.
- Ensures adequate staff scheduling within the department to ensure quality patient care and meet productivity benchmarks
- Ensures staff members receive an orientation and ongoing educational development based upon organization and service/unit requirements and individualized employee needs/expectations.
- Develops, implements and analyzes adherence to organizational and service/department specific standards of care and policies and procedures.
- Conducts timely staff performance appraisals ensuring staff competence while emphasizing staff retention strategies through coaching and individual development.
- Ensures courteous, knowledgeable service to patients, staff and visitors; continually updates and educates staff on appropriate patient care, client service and laboratory issues.
- Works collaboratively with the Assistant Managers to assure that meaningful leader/employee rounding is completed according to span of control expectations.
- Assists in ensuring accurate test results are available to nursing units, physicians and outreach clients in a timely manner; assists Clinical Laboratory Director as liaison to nursing units and physicians.
- Ensures adequate and appropriate supplies are used for employee safety.
- Supports the vision and goals of KRMC and adheres to established best practices (AIDET, Rounding, Thank you notes, 5/10 Rule, etc.).
- Monitors compliance with all hospital, OSHA, and relevant regulatory requirements concerning laboratory safety.
- Coordinates quality assurance duties by monitoring key processes that pertain to laboratory services and supports the laboratory's Quality Management System.
- Shares laboratory administrative duties with laboratory management as assigned. Engages in strategic planning and budgetary process.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Business or related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years supervisory or management experience in a clinical laboratory setting required.
- Previous customer service experience highly desirable.
