POSITION: Performance Engineer

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.

STATUS: Salary Exempt

JOB SUMMARY

The position requires a very strong working knowledge of gas turbine performance, thermodynamics and the Brayton cycle, accompanied by a strong fundamental understanding of other pertinent gas turbine disciplines. The candidate must demonstrate a team-focused and proactive approach to problem solving.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Utilize engine data and the cycle deck to assess corrected gas turbine performance.
  • Support the Commercial team with tendering activities by assessing current GT performance and estimating upgrade benefits.
  • Develop new performance models based on available engine, analytical and literature data.
  • Lead performance upgrade commissioning efforts:
  • Generate and publish post-upgrade performance predictions.
  • Support contract and guarantee negotiations with the Commercial Team.
  • Generate preliminary upgrade control constants ahead of the outage based on design targets (control curves, etc.).
  • Support the on-site tuning, controls and performance testing teams during commissioning.
  • Generate a customer report summarizing the performance results after completion of the outage.
  • Refine existing procedures or develop new ones as needed to continually improve the product the Product Engineering group produces.
  • Work within an integrated product team (IPT) to provide input and guidance on the development and execution of new products.
  • Support root cause analysis as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Training
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.

  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM's EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

  • 5+ years of experience working with gas turbine thermodynamics, performance and cycle analysis.
  • Experience running and modifying cycle deck programs.
  • Knowledge of compressor and turbine performance maps.
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine secondary airflow, compressor aerodynamics, and turbine aerodynamics.
  • Working knowledge of IGT operation, controls and methods.
  • Experience presenting technical topics to peers, higher management, and customers.
  • Candidate must be effective in communicating and decision-making.
  • Candidate must have effective organizational skills.
  • Candidate must have the ability to work multiple assignments effectively.
  • Technical computer capability required (C++, VBA, etc.)
  • Travel is required on an as needed basis.
