POSITION TITLE: Principal
ASSIGNMENT: Principal
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Florida certification in administration, supervision, educational leadership or school principal Five (5) years experience as a professional educator Two (2) years experience in educational administration Completion of a Preparing New Principals Program or documented experience as a Principal in Florida Physical Requirements: To perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
ADDITIONAL DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of effective or higher performance as an Assistant Principal in the appropriate school level
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees personnel interview and selection process Conducts teacher conferences Hires and meets with Curriculum Leadership Team Supervises department level meetings with Curriculum Leadership Teams Arranges and supervises department chairman meetings Prepares and conducts faculty and staff meetings Prepares for orientation of personnel new to the school Prepares for teacher/public/parent relations Provides guidance for teachers and staff Observes and evaluates classroom instruction Provides supervision of student discipline Coordinates all assigned duties of all departments of the school Formulates public relations policies affecting the school Works with the district staff in carrying out the district's goals and objectives Prepares the budget and facilitates budgetary expenditures Administers and supervises all aspects of the school: instructional, custodial, lunchroom, clerical, maintenance, etc. Makes assignments to teachers and other members of the staff in relation to their general and specific duties including mentor teachers Keeps parents informed of events involving students and/or their child(ren) Cultivates safe learning environment Keeps staff members advised and informed of policy changes and new developments as appropriate Assigns and oversees mentoring program as directed by district office Manages assignments and discipline of substitutes Initiates and maintains a system of student attendance Institutes measures for the orientation of students Recommends, to the Superintendent and School Board, the reappointment and/or non-renewals of all school personnel Conducts performance appraisals (with AP) on all school staff Stimulates and provides opportunities for professional growth of all personnel Organizes professional learning groups for participation in activities that enhance instructional practices Orders materials, supplies, textbooks, equipment, etc. as needed Cooperates with other schools and central administration in the implementation of instructional activities Counsels with teachers, students, and parents on educational matters Prepares and submits to appropriate agency/department all reports and plans required by the district, state and federal offices Supervises the scheduling of all teacher, students and other school personnel Coordinates pre- and post-school planning Assists in the development and implementation of appropriate in service activities for school personnel Assumes responsibility for developing and implementing effective and appropriate school curricular and extracurricular activities Assumes responsibility for the dissemination and implementation of School Board rules and regulations as they relate to school personnel and operation services Establishes and maintains effective communication with other principals and school department personnel

Performs other duties as requested by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction
TERM:
Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process
APPRAISAL:
Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board policies
PAYGRADE:
According to the School Board of Highlands County Administrative Salary Schedule
