Description: The Behavioral Specialist position assists teachers and staff with the prevention of disruptive and at-risk behavior of students. The position entails data collection from student and classroom observation, functional behavior analysis, and behavior intervention plans. Collaboration with district exceptional student education staff and school based staff is a key component.

Salary: Base Salary ranging from $61,500-$101,700, commensurate with experience. Details provided in the attachment.

Requirements:
  • Eligibility for Florida certification in Exceptional Student Education (grades K-12).
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential preferred.

How to Become FL Certified in Exceptional Student Education (grades K-12):
  • Out-of-State Certification: If you hold an unexpired professional educator certificate from another state in the relevant subject area, please apply for Florida reciprocity.
  • Special Ed Major: Bachelor's (or higher) degrees frequently acceptable for Florida certification include: Special Education, Mild and Moderate Needs, Teacher of the Handicapped, Varying Exceptionalities, Behavioral Disorders, BD/LD, Emotionally Conflicted, Emotionally Disturbed, Emotionally Handicapped, Socially and Emotionally Maladjusted, Educable Mentally Retarded, Children with Retarded Mental Development (CRMD), Intellectual Disabilities, Mentally Handicapped, Mentally Impaired, Mental Retardation, Profoundly Mentally Retarded, Severely and Profoundly Mentally Retarded, Trainable Mentally Retarded, Learning Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Motor Disabilities, Orthopedically Handicapped, Physically Handicapped, & Physically Impaired.
  • Other Majors: If your bachelor's (or higher) degree is in another major, you can become eligible by passing the subject area exam in ESE K-12.
